Post news Report RSS Kurofune DevLog #7 - Cutting Down

The importance of having a realistic scope and coherence in a game.

Posted by on

This week in "Kurofune: Descobrimos Portugueses", we are explaining some drastic changes our game went through thanks to feedback from multiple people in the industry.

Hello everyone, welcome to another weekly DevLog from 3PAStudios, where we explain our thought process bit by bit on how our game is being made and give a piece of our mind on this journey of game developing. If you have any questions or tips to give us be sure to post a comment or talk to us in our social medias at twitter and instagram.

Feedback

The feedback given to our project since the latest game testing scene was pretty positive, mainly because we finally had a game coherent enough to be playable. As mentioned in the previous DevLog, our scope for the game was astronomical, but we also think it was necessary to reach the level we are at.

Our main objective following our previous approach of throwing everything to the wall and see what sticks is to take everything that didn't stick and polish what was effective.

Moving forward our game will be only played on this scene, any event in the game will have a prompt given by text, e general outcome based on the action the player decides to take and a simulation deciding the outcome.

We decided to cut our action scenes from the game not only duo to a time constraint but also because of dissonance in the game, since strategy and resource management correspond to one type of game and the action scenes relates to another.

Conclusion:

Cutting down is not always bad, as referred in the previous DevLog, it's better to have a small, compact and polished game instead of having a big broken mess. We feel that this way we can reach the end product we envisioned in the time constraint given and feel good about the end result.

Join us next week's DevLog as we are approaching the end of development and are close to releasing our game.
