Development Diary #9 news

Hello everyone!!

This week we made some progress on the art, unfortunately it was a slow week, but we plan on picking up the work we are leaving behind in the coming days.

In this post we will show:

- Updated tileset;

- Sketches, value studies and a color test for the Kid.

Starting with the tileset, here is the old one.

And the updated one.

We added some details like shadows and some bright spots, the values were tweaked so that it creates more contrast, the ceiling was removed as it created problems with the prespective, in the garden the bush that was near the player was removed as it created some visual noise and can be added with a asset instead of in the tileset, and the bush that was further away was moved even further away to give a better perception of space.

Here are the scenes that we mounted using these tilesets.

Moving on to the Kid, we wanted to make him not really cute, wich can turn out to be tricky when he is a baby, we needed to make him look like a baby while giving him a sort of cartoonish grotesque perception.

Here are some of the sketches we made while trying to figure out how we want him to look like, we focused more on the face than the clothes/body diversity as we don't want to take away the attention of the player from the face of the character.

These are the studies on the values of the Kid's two main body types, the shirt is more dark so that it contrasts better with the background, as the player occupies a small portion of the screen, it is important to easily identify the Kid when playing.

This is a test of the values we made with our palette, it will be used to make tweaks to the values and palette when we have the background and assets made.
