Short article about the development of GrannyWatch.

Posted by on

Hello everyone!!

This is the first article for our game GrannyWatch.

GrannyWatch is an indie 2D Platformer where you play as a kid who helps his bedridden grandma complete chores around the house. The game is going to be more focused on the visual experience due to its simple gameplay yet very unique and characteristic in its art style with some emphasis on the characters' facial expressions and body language.

The gameplay consists of simple 2D Platformer movement such as walking and jumping, pushing and pulling objects as well as some button mashing on some occasions.

Our target audience is 35 to 40 years old due to the heavy inspiration on 90's cartoons, which is intended to provoke nostalgia on some players.

We will adopt the article system to show you the progress of our game weekly, be there any updates or not.

In this article we will discuss some of our ideas and their moodboards, more specifically:

Art Style Moodboard

  • Moodboard for our chosen art style for the game, a more cartoonish look to appeal to our target audience.

Kid Moodboard

  • Moodboard for the playable character (kid). Short with a muscular physic, as well as the color pallet.

Tittle Moodboard

  • Moodboard for the game tittle. The font, the grandma as a letter and the exagerrated facial expression as a compliment.

Our artist also drew a sketch to better convey the idea of the level and character design, as well as some UI concepts our team is still deciding and better improve.

Level Sketch

As you can see, the playable character is a lot smaller then its surroundings.

Thank you for your attention.

Stay tuned for next week!
