This month we got things together and decided that with such large goals, we would need some help. Lift is officially looking for some new blood. Our Eureka model has also been finished.
Whats Up?
Hello once again, ModDB! We’re back this month and we have much to talk about, so let’s get right down to it. Our coder Cerebrate has had a lot on his hands recently; he’s been acting as coder and animator, and it’s understandably a big burden! We all have lives outside of Lift (except maybe Doug, I have no idea what that guy does when he’s alone), so to start off this news post, I would like to extend an open invitation for anyone to apply with us (assuming you meet the following criteria).
Modelers: We are looking for 2 new prop modelers who will be working mostly on map environments, with other things as needed. They must be able to meet deadlines and keep in contact with the team on an almost daily basis. Having experience modeling for games (low poly) is favorable but not required. The ability to unwrap and texture your model is also a big plus.
Animators: We are looking for an animator for our character and LFO models. We require an animator who uses blender. You don't specifically have to be good at animating; you merely need to be capable of learning to animate. This position will require the following:
-The ability to use blender (2.49b specifically) to an average extent.
-The ability to use the Action Editor, including basic animation with an armature.
-The ability to use Inverse Kinematics in a model rig.
If you are not proficient in the concepts of animation (ie, your animations are stiff and jerky), and want to animate for us, you must be willing to learn the basic principles of animation (which we will teach to you).
All applicants should send an E-mail explaining your skills and examples of your work (if any) to Lift_mod@yahoo.com
This Month!
This month was a bit slow. After the huge response we got from our last news post, we knew that we had to follow this through and make something great! That is why we are opening our doors to new applicants; we haven't lost anyone or anything, we are all still here! Now, onto our plans for this month:
Eureka!
Some time back we showed off Torchling’s Eureka model and were quite happy with it. Since then, Torchling has fine-tuned the model to get it ready for use. This is the final version; we’re aiming to have it in game and animated in the next few days.
More Gekko Go?
Yes, more Gekko Go. I honestly can’t get Doug to stop working on this thing; his work is piling up, yet he continues to work on this model. We now have a Gekko model that you can explore the inside of. Here are some quick WIP shots
These are early un-textured shots, but they work, and that's what we need right now.
Ever wanted to hang out and chat inside the cockpit of the Gekko Go? Perhaps visit the holding cells or main hanger? Well, thanks to Doug’s thick head, you will be able to in Lift.
Some Scud?
The Scud Bike was the next LFO on our list to add. The scud bike is light and fast, but lacks armor. We have some interesting ideas in store for this one, take a look!
The Scud Bike will be one of the many LFOs that you can choose in Lift. We plan on adding LFOs from both the series and the games.
That's it for this month. We will be doing posts on the 10th of every month; however, we’ll release images and clips whenever we get them, so be sure to check in on us from time to time. Make sure you’re watching this game so that ModDB will send you notifications whenever we update. The watch button is on the right of this page!
We are going to start bringing in testers over the next few months. Look for more information in the next news post.
for some reason, i don't think we WANT to know what Doug does when he's alone....
Don't forget Eureka's magically appearing undershorts!
lulwut?
You remember... in the episode where Eureka squats down next to Renton in that one episode... I think it was the one where she thinks he wants to have kids... she suddenly has shorts on under her skirt, and then they disappear as mysteriously as they appeared when she stands again.
I don't think I ever saw that; maybe because I wasn't looking?
It was kinda hard not to notice. All the time they very carefully avoid showing up Eureka's skirt, and then there's just one time where they have her squatting next to Renton with the camera in front of them and she's suddenly wearing shorts. If I can find a video of it I'll post it on the forum.
ooh! Testers! I wanna be a Tester =D
You and half the rabid fans here...
As much as I'd like to, (I am currently a tester for FOOK2...) odds of that happening are pretty slim...
ME TEST, I R WANT TEST!. ive been following lift since day ******* 1 over 2 years ago. althouht i dont know if plink remembers me. i told him to block me when my steam got haxd and he still hasnt unblocked mehhh
i think everyone wants to be a tester :D im one of them :D
I would help IF i remembered how to use blender..... Oh well, good progress guys.
Unfortunately Eureka looks badly posed - never NEVER make the arms with the hands facing forward like that!
@ leilei What? It's just a model pose.
first off, shes NOT posed, as ptc5010 said, its the model pose, she's not rigged yet so we couldn't pose her. also, granted, i should have modelled the arms on a diagonal, and with the hands facing downward. but the original model was made LONG ago, and the direction of the hands in this model doesn't really matter as we can't see her arms, just the dress on top of them so how the arm twists in movement isn't all that important cos you can't see the muscles and what not.
Have you never seen an unrigged model before? Think before you post.
Have you ever misunderstood a comment before? Noone seems to get that leilei is referring to exactly what torchling mentioned. It's bad practice to model a character with their hands forward, mostly for reason of geo and animation (muscle work etc).
And torchling, if the arms are in the shirt, can you just turn it now?
And it can be called a pose, even if it isn't a rigged pose, because most people model characters to look good before rigging, even if they don't need to, and even if some animators/riggers hate it.
yeah, they can very easily be changed, would take me a total of like, 20 seconds, lol
Nice new avatar, Torch.
thanx =P
wait really quick just wanna touch base on something wasn't this a Half-life 2 mod?
anyways look great Half-life 2 or not ill make sure to play this since i have been very interesting since day one!
keep up the most epic of work!
I was a Half-Life 2 mod. Now it's stand alone.
Shoelip is correct, it was originally a HL2 mod, but then got scraped as we could get a programmer and what not. but are now making it stand alone with unity! :)
if its standalone, why not just create new content, new story, new character.. rather this fan stuff... its quite waste effort you know... at least with new contain, you can get profit with it... like killing floor mod once before
Because we are going to finish what we started before we move on to our laundry list of awesome game ideas.
adding to what plink said. who says we're doing it for profit, i'm working on lift cos i enjoy doing 3d modelling and game development and i loved the anime. if lift didn't have anything to do with Eureka Seven, i more than likely wouldn't be working on it at all. nor would it have caught my eye when i first came across it
you're still padawan mate haha!
i'm use like you before~ modeling for fun and enjoy people download my stuff... but seem the request get increase, i'm starting to make a profit from it~
So what exactly are you implying? That the value of a person's work is measured by how much they're paid for it? Somehow I think several billion volunteers and people in critical low paying jobs would disagree with that.
First off I gotta say, this news posts comments have gotten off track more than any other.
any who xeno, some people do it for fun some people for profit. Its great either way. Your comments are some what redundant. Im sure that if torchling was asked to do some 3D for a profit he would, and if its a question of quality then you can simply look at this model on display here, its only one of the many professional grade models hes made. Once again your whole conversation is some what redundant, that is of course unless your some how leading up to asking him to work with you. :)
well the job offering up there is just like some paid work... which i'm confuse~
well anyway... good luck~
We just work on this because we love doing it. It's fun to make a game about something we all know and love, and it'll be fun to play as well. If we were to just start making a random game, we'd probably lose fans and most of our working staff.
As for making money: Lift isn't a corporate game; we're doing this because it's what we love, and because we want to give something to the community, not to make a profit or gain anything from our players. I hardly think it's a waste of time to develop something that probably thousands of Eureka Seven fans are going to enjoy, and even if no one winds up playing it (which would suck), we'd still have the fun times we had making it.
to be honest, i dont WANT to be paid for working on Lift, sure it would be nice to have some more money in our pocket, but its not about that.
Hey, you do what you love. For pay or not, your doing what is fun and makes you happy. I sure hope this mod is played and doesnt die down like the one Mod Digital Paintball. Though thats been in beta for awhile and they just started again. I've played some of the console games for Eureka Seven, but they somewhat limited the experience. You guys seem like we can either be serious pilots. Or just screw around on the boards. I like that. Really looking forward to the release and I SURE hope I'll be chosen as a tester :P Eureka Seven is sweet and the mechs are even sweeter. Gotta spend someone of my summer somehow. Might as well help out with a great mod to come ^^
SOOO AWESOMEESSS!
inorite!?
I know this is a little late :P but im really excited about this game as a huge fan of the series. Plus the gameplay just sounds really fun! but anyway great work guys and i cant wait until the day when we get to play this, keep it alive :)
nice work i think i will get this mod when its comes out i saw the serie and the movie it was awesome:)
