I wanted to take a quick moment to talk about the game, how it's played, and some of the different effects of different map pieces so everyone can get a clearer idea of what is being built. So, let's launch into it. First things first.

How do I win?

House marked

The goal of the game is to buy a house, any house. Just like in real life, houses aren't always for sale. When they do come up for sale, you'll see a gold ring light up around them. Simple hover your mouse over the property to see the price and click to buy if you have enough cash on hand.

Where do I get cash?

Tech Company infusing economy with money

You start the game with a monthly salary that arrives in your account every in game month, which is about 5 seconds. If you're unhappy with your salary, or it's not meeting your needs, you can always ask your employers for a raise, but make sure you're on their good side, or you could end up with a pay cut.

What happens if I run out of money?

Just like in real life, if you've run out of money, you've lost the game of gentrification, but unlike real life, you are always welcome to try again.

How do I start the game?

IndieDB SS PlayerHome

In the beginning of the game, just scroll around the map and look for a property you think will fit your needs. Again, just one click to rent as long as you have enough money.

How is rent calculated?

Economic Impacts

Property values are changed by the buildings surrounding them. If your house is next to a park, your rent will go up. If your house is next to a burnt out husk of a house, your rent will go down. If your house has a massive amount of cash dumped on it by the gentrifiers, your rent goes up.

The Gentrifiers!?

Tech HQ, Again

As you play the game, your city will slowly be flooded with cash by various companies. The companies will "invest" in different parts of the neighborhood by dropping cash into the map. When a property gets hit with a cash bomb, the value raises and the property changes according to its value. An empty field might become a park. A ranch house might become a condo. An office might become a mixed use structure. All of these changes have direct impacts on the price of local houses.
