Post news Report RSS Devlog 3: Major procrastination, disorganization and a lack of sleep

This week in Apex Revenge development: Lots of lore-related sh*t I can't talk about without spoiling the entire plot of the game. And also the todo list I use day to day for the game.

Heya! Welcome to Apex Revenge, which is a roguelite city builder hybrid where you become the mayor of a broken-down town. This is devlog 3, which will talk a bit about my workflow, and about everything related to it.

"Without further ado, let's get started."

Messy todos and physical todo board

For Apex Revenge, I use a physical black board to keep track of what I need to go. That board is quite messy but allows me clearly to see what's left to implement until the next update. For the sake of simplicity, I've both included a photo of the board and a transcription because my handwriting is something only me and my relatives may be able to comprehend successfully.

Sans titre

That's more readable right?

The advantage of using a physical board instead of a digital board is that you feel more rewarded to check off a box. It feels greater to physically impact a board with chalk than it does clicking on a square to impact a few electrons in RAM or in an SSD. The obvious disadvantage of using a physical board is simple; my room is approximately 3m by 3m by 2m. I cannot take note of every stupid idea I have, nor can I take note of every IMPORTANT idea. Still, it allows me to do what I need to do as of now. Perhaps in the future I will have to move to a tool like Trello, either because I'm collaborating with someone or because I don't have more space. I could also buy other boards to go alongside it in the future.

Wait, "country mode"?

Country mode is an idea I've had previously that has been stuck with me. Thus, I added it to the list. Country mode is like the standard mode you've previously been able to play, just more. What do I mean by more? Well, instead of managing a city, you'd manage many more cities. In fact, instead of just having cities, you'd own a whole country. You could instore laws, let bots manage cities at your place, create alliances with other countries, and, of course, the most important mechanic of all: declaring war on Norway. But not with any other country. Just Norway. Only Norway.

Important research

Cyas and goodbyes!

Next week, I'll tackle whether or not I managed to implement controllers and war on Norway, but for now, have a good week!

I'm just now seeing the project, but the idea seems really interesting!

Keep it up! I'm curious to see how this project will turn out!

Thanks! The devlog is certainly going to be longer, I've already added (finally) a pause menu, a day night cycle and basic support for controllers. And that's only one day after the devlog :)
