We need the updated version for Linux also!!!

The Linux version is still outdated, 1.0.5 when Win and Mac already have 1.0.8...

Nope, it can run fine also on the old version of AIR, simply desura isn't able to find AIR on "strange" distros.
I use ArchLinux, and i also can't run it directly from desura. but here's the workaround:
* Download the Linux .zip version from Desura's website and put the "mcpixel.air" file somewhere (for example on the "/opt/" folder)
* Make a small bash script or use the terminal. you need to use this command: "adobe-air /opt/mcpixel.air"
