Yes, the mod needs to be fixed in very much things, due to recent updates to the 'Source' engine, and very much other things.
All of this will be fixed in 'The Gate 2 v1.5' I'm doing. Just be patient and take a look at the last news at the 'Facebook Webzone' of the mod.

Here I left a guide about how to download and install the mod for those who don't know how to do it:
1 - Download the files (from moddb.com):
A) Gate II zip 1 --> gate2zip1.7z
B) Gate II zip 2 --> gate2zip2.7z
C) Gate II Patch 2 revised --> gate2_II_patch2_revised.7z
2 - Decompress the files following this order:
A) gate2zip1.7z --> C:\
B) gate2zip2.7z --> C:\TheGate2
C) gate2_II_patch2_revised.7z --> C:\TheGate2 (OVERWRITE ALL)
TOTAL: Files: 92.174 / Folders: 3.208
IMPORTANT: You HAVE to decompress the files just in the root of 'C:\', or other unit, but just in the root of it, due to how the mod is done, for no one file can be omitted or lost. This is the best way to ensure all the files are good extracted.
3 - Close the 'Steam' Client.
4 - Cut and paste the 'TheGate2' Folder, into the path:
C:\Instalaciones\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods
IMPORTANT: Note that I have installed 'Steam' into the folder 'Instalaciones'.
I always install 'Steam', or at the root of the unit 'C:\', or in a different and also short named, folder, due to some games when modded, needs a path as short as possible to load the game files, or the files of the mod of the game, good. Also, you have the possibility of to install the game just straight in its own path when installing thru 'Steam'. Some examples of games that are affected by this, are: 'Skyrim', and 'Half-Life 2' themself.
5 - Open 'Steam' Client.
6 - The Name of the Mod will appear as 'TheGate2', in your 'Steam Games Library List'.
7 - You can now run the game by these ways:
A) Selecting it in your list (left), and clicking the green button 'PLAY' (right).
B) Right click on the name of the mod, and selecting 'PLAY' with green background.
C) Just Double Click over the name of the mod.
That's all.

I am only the person who is going to do the version 2.0 of the mod, i'm NOT the creator, and i will do just the things i got the permission to do from the creator. If you want more info, and suggestions, just contact with the creator of the mod. Again, i'm NOT the creator, just a modder who will try to do (when having more time to do it so) a new version with ONLY the changes i was allowed to do.

First of all, sorry a lot for not giving information since a lot of time ago. Now, Francisco Pozo 'DJ FrANKy EHP', the person doing "The Gate 2 v2.0", has sent the next message:
"First, apologies for not giving updates in all this time. The main reason is that since the end of February of this year 2016, i have not done any new update or work to the new version of this mod, due to since that date i have been and i am extremely bussy, and speaking from now and looking to the future, i will continue extremely bussy too.
Nowadays, as Music and Multimedia Producer, i'm working in the videogames industry in a professional way, between other projects i'm involved that will not let me to work on this, because i'm giving priority to the paid works and projects, as you all will understand due to i need money to live like everybody outthere.
So, to resume; the new version of this mod that "Craig J. Beattie" (the original creator) let me to do it, has entered in a "Pause Status" for an indefinitely period of time. I don't know when i will have time to continue working on it, but i will try to find time to do it when i can.
It's NOT abandoned. It's NOT dead. But i cannot continue on this... only FOR NOW.
Sorry a lot for this, but i think you all will understand the situation."

The Gate II v2.0 is ALIVE:
Francisco Pozo 'DJ FrANKy EHP', the person doing "The Gate 2 v2.0", send the next message:
"The project is NOT dead, all is going very slowly due to the big amount of time it requires, to do some of the things i am doing to the mod, and also to the fact that i have other projects too, that needs to page my attention. My intention, is to release the version 2.0 of this mod, sometime in this year 2016. I cannot say an specific date, so i will try to update regularly the Facebook Webzone with news about it. In addition to all the earlier mentioned changes, i want to add one more, and is the New Weapons for the mod, but this is not guaranteed, due to i have to contact with some people that can help me with it, and it will depends on the answers from them, but i will try.
Again, don't worry, i'm on the way, and i will do it at my best.
Anyway, while waiting for some other news, here i send you a new additional logo for "The Gate II v2.0".

Thanks for your interest on "The Gate 2". The version 2.0 is going good, but it will take longer time to be released (with all the changes said below in other news), due to i'm very bussy with real life and other works, but i still continue working on it.
Please, don't worry for you and 4 Everybody. I will finish that version, but need time and patience.

Here, our Team Member : Francisco Pozo 'DJ FrANKy EHP', the person who is in the task of doing "The Gate 2 v2.0", has done an image for this Facebook Webzone, here he says :
" As a result of my last work in this version of the mod, at this mixed image, you can see the New Menu Appearance done, covering two languages (Spanish-English), remember the game will also be translated to Italian, French and Deutsch. As shown, i had change a little the menu; changing the colors, the font and the phrases you can read for each action, to give a better customization for the entire feeling of the game. Also at the backgroun map, i had fixed an error where the crosshair was at the sight of the map, when it must not be there. For a final good atmosphere, i had added a piece of my original song for the game i had composed time ago, the 'Main Theme', so now the menu will have music too at the start of it.
It will take time to finish this version of the game, overall what will take longer than expected will be, the finish of all transcriptions of the dialogues for all maps, hard task, and of course, to delete the residual files that was left at the folders of the game, the way to do the installation very very much light. This in junction with my other projects and my real life will make this take time.
But don't worry, i'm on the way, and i will do it at my best. "

New Year, new works on this project. At this time, our Team Member : Francisco Pozo 'DJ FrANKy EHP' is working on new changes, in addition to the transcription and translation for the game. Here he says :
"I'm not working all that i want on the project, because the time and my needs has changed a little, but i'm on the way of applying some changes that i list now for you all. The next release of the game, will be named 2.0, so here i will tell you what i'm working nowadays for it :
'The Gate 2 v2.0' will have :
- Transcription and translation texts to 5 languages (English, Spanish, Italian, Deutsh and French)
- New Steam Icon
- My own Song i'd composed for the game added to the Menu, the 'Main Theme'
- Cleaner Installation (less space needed in your HD for the whole game)
- New easier installation Interface (Like any other software, step by step, just executing it)
- The updated Covers of the game in the 5 languages (DVD and Cookie)
- After all, i will do a Trailer of the Game at Full HD 1080p.
Well, this will need work, but i promise i will be working hard on it, in my free time."

New updates for all of you. Francisco Pozo 'DJ FrANKy EHP', who is doing the transcription of the texts of the game to english and directly the responsible of the coordination of the translations to other 4 languages more (between other works for the mod), has done some screens for the public and send this message :
" Here i took this screenshots for the public can see some of the progress in the process of transcribing all the argumentative and conversative texts from the game in english. Although the entire process is a little above the 73% aproximately, here i only show this. Remember that after finishing english and spanish (language in which i will translate the game too) i will need to wait till my translators mates finish their part in their language. The game will also be a little updated in some little things.
The texts patch will be realeased with the possibility of putting and quitting the texts in the game when you want, just executing it.
More is to come, but give me time because i have very much things to do, in other projects and in the life in general. "

" The transcription to english of the game is almost at 70% reached, i had been working only in the texts i already had done, to solve some mistakes, next i will continue working into the game and the maps to continue the progress. I can't give a date of end for all because i will depend also on the speed of the others translators once i had finished my part. But the game will be translated to all languages i had told, just be patient. "

First of all, sorry for the delay in the answer, i'm very very bussy.
Second, the game only needs a copy of "Half-Life 2" to be played.
Third, you must be secure that you can run "Half-Life 2" in a right way. If so, please be secure; that you had downloaded all the files, that you had extracted good (respecting the path of the folders) and that you had put all at your 'sourcemods" folder. And of course, that you had not altered nothing at the game or the mod itself.
