What's this? A new update about Story of a Cube?! Be excited, be very excited.

Hello again!

Wow, can't believe it's been over a month since I last posted here. I've been quite busy lately and haven't been able to work on Story of a Cube as much as I've wanted to. Don't worry though, progress is being made. Slowly but surely. Anyway, I thought this would be a good time to talk about the game as a whole, and not just the little details. Buckle up!

A secret computer terminal!

Look! A thingy! Perhaps it's important for the plot?

Campaign

In the main story, you will play through around 6-10 levels (haven't decided on a final number yet), each level taking around 5 minutes to complete. This may not sound like a lot, but due to the difficulty you'll have to play each level several times before actually getting through them (unless you're playing on easy, in which case you can pretty much just cruise through the game). I hope that this system will satisfy two different types of players; the ones who want a challenging game that will take patience and skill to complete, and the more casual players who just want a fun and juicy game to enjoy.

On each level you're given a certain amount of lives. Lose a life and you'll restart at a checkpoint, run out of lives and you'll have to restart the level. Running out of lives also means you won't be able to get the good ending (multiple endings, f-yeah!). To get the good ending you have to do a "clean" run and play through all levels without a singe game over. This is quite challenging.

Ooh, a new screenshot!

Ooh, an armored turret!

Challenge Mode

I don't want to over-scope this project, but once I'm done with the main campaign I want to make a series of short and intense time trial levels. If my PHP skills are sufficient I might just make some online leaderboards for this mode.

Survival Mode

This is basically just the level 3 boss, the only difference being that it goes on forever and gets increasingly difficult. Hmm, would be nice to have leaderboards for this mode too...

New Features

It's been so long since I last posted here, so of course there's a load of new things I haven't told you about yet. Here are some highlights:

The sound effects are finally no longer broken. I'd managed to break them in some way and it took quite a while to fix but yaay for sound effects!

The explosive bullets are explodier!

The level 4 boss totally amazing, I'll tell you more in the next update.

Bullets no longer hit invisible objects. I can't believe I didn't fix this sooner.

I've figured out a great ending to the story. Wait a minute, I haven't told you about the story, have I? I think I'll save that for the next update too.

Well, those were the most exciting things that have changed since last time. I guess I gotta get back to work now if I'm ever gonna finish this game :D
Make sure to follow this game if you want to hear more.
Until next time, bye-byyyye!
