I am exceptionally proud to present “Reality Incognita”, a finely crafted sci-fi adventure game with tried and true old school controls similar to preceding adventure game classics.
Our story will dabble in humor at times, with many twists and turns that are sure to keep even the most demanding adventures satisfied. Be prepared for a thrilling experience that is sure to keep you guessing with an engaging narrative and tons of surprises. You are going to be on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Peri Res has woken up unexpectedly in a place that resembles anything but her daily routine. Upon closer inspection she discovers it’s an eerie space vessel bound for the unknown. Finding out why her current predicament is happening sets out to be our protagonist primary goal. The quest to determine and discover forthcoming events is unfortunately riddled with suspense and many dangers wait. To make matters worse the ship is constantly being sabotaged and her efforts are proving ever more difficult. Time is not on her side as she races to find out why she has been brought to this strange and vast spacefaring vessel.
Due to personal preference, I had decided very early on to opt for old style controls during the development of Reality Incognita. Buttons like Use\Take\Open are present along with a few surprises in addition to modern stylized graphics. Peri is going to be put into perma-death situations and being careless will result in lost items. (Thereby leading to death once again) I believe there should be consequences for casual mistakes and pointless clicking. It’s necessary to ensure an immersive experience and above all an enjoyable one.
Puzzles and riddles are going to have multiple solutions as well.
I’m also currently preparing huge branching dialogue trees that are being revised and improved constantly. It’s a pretty daunting task but I have the utmost confidence that all of the game elements will be perfectly integrated for a seamless & unforgettable experience.
I’ve been meaning to put this story into motion for quite some time. Considering how long I’ve been editing and reworking every aspect of the experience to be, it is due time. Would love to hear the thoughts of the community and if things work out splendidly, (and I trust they will :) the hopefully it will result in us greenlighting this amazing project.
Reality Incognita by DireBoarGames ( Indiedb.com ) is an indie point and click adventure that is currently still under development, but even in its demo’s Alpha phase, it offers an interesting mix of science fiction and mystery, wrapped in a distinctive adventure gaming flavor.
The game setup goes for the classic plot element that marked many great games, from Dead Space to System Shock – the player wakes up in a place that has all the characteristics of a space ship. However, she does not know where the vessel is heading or what is she doing there. From the first moment, the game plays well on the mystery card, providing a solid playground for exploration, which is at the same time mired by a sense of constant danger through an unseen foe that is determined to stop her in the attempt to figure out what is going on.
Reality Incognita jumps into adventure mode immediately. Placed in the position of an amnesiac woman, the players know everything she knows, stranded in a cryo chamber with a dead body (a subtle homage to films like Aliens and Event Horizon can be seen here, especially in regards to player’s initial clothing). Here, the game begins its adventure gameplay that utilizes a standard HUD, where the players can examine different locations on the scenes, open/close things and use them by bridging the inventory and scene hotspots.
Here, the game presents a logical set of actions, all of which is tied into the basic and clear goal of both finding out information and escaping (thus unlocking additional rooms to explore). Another big part of the gameplay is the optional dialogues with, at least at the beginning, AI and robots. Here, the player can find useful information, but also provides that vintage adventure vibe which is sadly becoming less and less popular these days. Still, games like Reality Incognita show that this still works naturally in these intellectually-charged setups.
The graphics of the game are still being finalized, while the sound and music, along with cool voice acting for the player character, show a well-defined game. As it enters the Beta phase, I’m certain that the looks will catch up with the now already impressive gameplay and plot of the game, as well as a flawless engine that runs it all. For now, the status of the Reality Incognita promises an engaging space horror adventure in the style of the vintage point and click games. If DireBoarGames came complete it in the same fashion, I’m certain that many adventure fans will have a nice release on their hands.
