Greeting fellow Earthlings!
As promised in our earlier post, we would like to share with you our experience going through Motion Capture recording at Quantic Dream.
We therefore set-up a little making-of video, summing up our day there and giving you a behind the scenes look at how we are planning animations in Fray. We hope you enjoy it as much as we had fun making it.
So now, 13013 is recovering from his injuries (and tight pants humiliation), David has found a home (under his desk) and I am still good for nothing. We are hard at work on the teaser movie set to be released at the end of January and a gameplay demo we hope to show you show you soon after.
Let me finish this news update by saying that
Brain Candy wishes you a Merry Christmas and happy holidays!!!
Thank you for your continuous support throughout 2010 and may 2011 be a great year for all indie projects!
Haha, nice intro! xD
You guys sound like you're having a LOT of fun developing this game. :)
Wouldn't have it any other way :)
God, such a funny entertaining video! Keep up the good work and the coolness haha :)

awesome video!!
and what a great way to get the animations of recoil of a weapon, by smashing with the wood against his 'weapon'. i never thought of this way to make that animation, and that when it is so logical because you get exactly what you need.
thanks a lot for this video, it was great fun and did show so well what all needs to be done to get good animations in a game!!
thanks!!!

Steve, the lead technician at Quantic Dreams capture studio, used to work at Activision and was responsible for some of the MoCap for Modern Warfare. He knew lots of little techniques to make realistic recoils and impacts, it was really awesome.
The way he explained the recoil is actually logical, the force of a bullet coming out of a nuzzle is spread from the tip of a gun towards the user, so if you hit it with a solid object strong enough, the look for motion capture is realistic :)
Wait, isn't this an RTS? Why is motion capture necessary? Is it one of those 'Close-up, IN YO FACE' kinda RTS's?
Fray is a Multiplayer Turn based Strategy game, but we are trying to do something special, that required realistic animations, hence the Motion capture. We will be showing the gameplay in the upcoming months once we are happy with the visual quality and the game flow.
This is why i'm tracking you!
Every motion capture video i've seen looks so fun. You guys have just showed what looks to be the most fun one by far. Especially being thrown around, pushed over, pulled back onto the mats, etc, just awesome :)
lol that was entertaining
Merry X-mas and a happy 2011 Brain Candy!
Nice and highly enjoyable movie... keep them coming.
Looking forward to your game!
By the way is there going to be a single player campaign?
Thank you RobbieV!
Unfortunately, we don't have any single player planned yet... We would prefer to make a good multiplayer game, rather than split the budget in half and make a mediocre single and multi... Not that don't have great ideas for solo, it's really just a budget issue...
But if the game gains momentum, then we will gladly support it with a single player campaign !
Haha ! Génial !
ah trop fort les mecs surtout pour le coté chute du perso ^^ .
Du motion capture comme ça c'est le pied !!!
(enfin sauf pour la chute ^^)
Merci les amis :D
I love you guys. Also, merry Christmas right back.
it sounds like its gonna be the best rts game in history
