So why are you doing this?
Steamboat Willie is an animation I watched many times when I was a wee cabin boy. He's a black and white character that takes the helm of a steam ship, it was only right and fitting to see him in The Caribbean Sail. Disney has also worked and lobbied for years to maintain their IP. I respect that an individual or company would like to maintain ownership of what they have created but managing to create a loophole in the law specifically for protection of an asset after everyone involved in its making has died? Not only is that unfair to all other intellectual property owners, it sets an unfair precedent for the future.
Disney itself utilized a plethora of public domain content and brought stories to life in a way that was innovative and unbelievable for the time. Now they both create new intellectual property and wallow in what they still hold. I don't seek to live in a Disney village, township, city, or nation and utilizing our right to follow in the footsteps of Disney by taking well known works to establish ourselves as artists is how we can combat their ability to own everything.
