This is one sweet vanilla HUD! Thanks!
This is awesome! Works great. I like how you lightly "sprinkled" them in the maps (subtle, yet effective). This with Perkristian's sounds & Revanant100's sprite fixes makes for a nice vanilla experience. Thanks!
Mechadon, I was able to get this mod running using version 8 (I went to your doomworld page). Somewhere between v8 and 1.0 is where the glitch at the beginning of map 2 occurs. So far, it's running good! I hope that there isn't much that I am missing out on between this version and the latest one. From what I can decipher from the notes (the changelog stops after version 8), it's probably just some dehacked changes...
I like your mod ... but I am stuck on the very beginning of map 2 (Terraformer). There is a wall blocking the way. I don't get this at all when playing it in Doom64EX (which I am not crazy about and why I am trying this "vanilla" mod). Any advice? I made sure to complete map 1 as much as I could. I am using the latest version of GZDoom.
This is great! Just the mixture that I was looking for and it works for TNT and Plutonia too. I really like how the track volumes all in unison. I hate packs that have loud and (comparably) barely audible tracks. This is going to be in my autoload for quite some time. Thanks!
P.S. I was using the Touhou soundfont (just renamed it to gzdoom.sf2) for a while, but this OGG pack is actually smaller! However, it did make it seem more "old school" retro though...
I am glad that you enjoy them!
Again, I edited the code and compiled this pack ... but I didn't make these models. 3D HUD weapons that I have come across look goofy. Plus, your view of them are only in two dimensions. Keep in mind that custom weapon mods might conflict with this pack. However, you can add a regular HD texture pack of your choice and custom sounds to enhance your experience (I've tested that).
This must be a bad upload. For one, it's only 97k. Also, I cannot open the zip file. Please upload when you can ... it sounds quite promising!
Actually, removing the "dlls" folder made it work, but Roy was missing in the carnival levels. However, this version is the original and works great (I have no idea why they didn't name the post "classic version" instead of "mod version," but they did a good job!):
This works fine with Xash3D (I just tested it). Simply remove the "dlls" folder and edit the "liblist.gam" file, replacing the line...
gamedll "dlls\redempt.dll"
with
gamedll "..\valve\dlls\hl.dll"
Note: the first couple of sentences spoken from the G-man do not play; however, these also do not play in the newer "Absolute Redemption" either in Xash3D (which was the only reason I tried this version). Oh well, I have the classic "has-the-old-Quake-2-level-in-it" now!
MrGnang,
Your mod is AWESOME! You did a phenomenal job on this puppy. Talk about attention to detail. I love how you subtly peppered the G-man here and there. I started playing it and didn't even realize that I was already about a third way through ... I was that immersed. Brilliant use of already canned voices and resources. Oh, it works well with Xash3D too, so I REALLY appreciate you providing the patch. Absolutely brilliant. Check out my mod, Brutal Ultimate Freedoom, if you gotta chance; however, it's Mickey Mouse compared to your masterpiece. Thank you big time!
I had the same problem. I just went into the pack and removed the flying rocket voxel code and stuff. This lets the default game sprite take over. No more issue!
This is pretty cool; however, it is now obsolete with Brutal Doom v21 Public Beta. I just tested it out. That mod now does EXACTLY what this did (replace FreeDoom sprites with Doom's and add gore/FX) ... along with much more. This concept is kind of neat: with this combo (Brutal Doom v21 Public Beta, GZDoom, and Freedom wads) you get a 100% open source brutal experience. With internet access, there's no need to dig around for an original game wad to begin slaying!
P.S. FreeDoom's levels & music are actually rather good. I just never liked their sprites. Now it's looking pretty @#$% sexy!
HEY EVERYBODY!
This is the best version of KuriKai's HD texure pack for this mod:

Holy crap. Went to play this again & decided to mod it up (texture fixes, etc. ...VC for the PC is riddled with minor issues). This mod is great. Nice attention to details. I haven't beta tested it all the way; however, what I have seen so far is very impressive. I installed it over a found game rip coupled with the original disc audio brought back (I own this sucker. Jeez, it is a steal now since it is so old it's practically abandonware) & have found no issues (and that was PRIOR to the patch). A solidly good job, fellas! 10 out of 10!
Thank you! Yes, it runs best with the version of DirectQ already included (which I am assuming is the 1.9 that you mention). I tried slightly newer versions; however, they failed to load all of the textures and models packaged in this download. It works great on all CPUs (including my Windows 10 machine) that I have tested in on. Glad to hear that you like it!
Lmao_ayy,
The combinations of these add-ons work well with regular GZdoom (don't recall testing the "one-liners" though); however, if you are referring to Project Brutality, you are going to have to test them yourself by modifying the zdoom.ini file. I haven't tried that out yet. I am guessing that some trial and error will give you good results!
Zedas,
Yes, I found your contributions & really appreciate them! If you could provide a link to those updates, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again!
Trancenden,
I originally uploaded it with the hi-res textures; however, one of the moderators took it out & placed the link for it instead to cut down the download size & ensure that one could get the latest version. Look in the description above & follow the directions & you should be good to go!
You don't have a floor? That's odd. I gather that you have your DOOM.WAD (or other wad file) in the main folder. I would suggest temporarily moving the add-on packs out & then putting them back individually until you find the culprit. What operating system are you using exactly?
Oh ... I see you tweaked my upload for me. Thanks!
TheUnbeholden, I made this to be a "one-stop-download-and-play" build; however, I do see your point. Your idea of just naming it a generic "zdoom-dhtp.pk3" for easy updating purposes would work well for those who are web surf savvy (I thought including links was not allowed). Regardless, I think that I have hit the wall as far as HD improvements go ... at least for a spell!
You're quite welcome!
Check out my newer version (Brutal Doom HD v.2). It's considerably bigger; however, it also is visually considerably prettier!
Randomguy7, thanks for the upload. It gave me some new leads on addons for my build. Sorry to see that your getting some backlash. Some folks are never happy with efforts that people make to get multiple addons to run successfully. I guess they should ask for their money back!
Thanks. I am curious of the other addons that you use. I am trying to adhere to Brutal Doom's look and feel while adding HD elements. The hardest thing to locate is HD menu fonts. It appears that GZDoom cannot support them from my research...
I can certainly add more images. I will also try to create a credit list; however, some of those wads that I have found didn't include an author name. For certain, key contributors include KuriKai (world textures), Sergeant_Mark_IV (music, doom guy taunts), The Zombie Killer (footsteps), Blue Shadow (hud), etc. I already found animated HD interpics for Ultimate Doom, so an update (with will come soon!
