AppGameKit

Engine review

I've been using AGK since the first version, and have grown very fond of it over the years. It lets me develop games organically and deploy and test on pretty much any device or computer I have. There's even a free version of AGK for Raspberry Pi, and recently HTML5 deployment was added. The 3D commands have also had a major makeover, more formats are supported, 3D physics, anti-alias, shaders, animation etc.

The IDE is very much improved since version 1 as well as compile times and Android/IOS deployment. Really it's my favourite language to write games in, I don't have to worry about only targeting PC or being too dynamic with screen resolutions - these aren't problems anymore.

So if you're looking for a game development language that doesn't expect you to learn C++ first, something to just get stuck into and make your game, then try AGK - it keeps game development fun and accessible while still providing access to mobile marketplaces and other platforms like Mac and Linux. It's also very easy to learn and has a great community behind it.
