The Kiwi Monday 26/5/14
Welcome back you kiwis this week i have made progress(FOR ONCE) YAY!!! So i am writing this pretty late so it wont be very much indeth do sorry if you actually like reading this. This week I completed the inventory system FINALLY. I have an item database which is pretty small write now. There is basic block, Gun, ammo, food and medic. So yeah a lot of that stuff doesn't work yet but you can place basic blocks you can shoot a gun which takes away from your ammo. Which is great, i also added the ability to kill zombies and the ability for you to die(i have it turned of for now for dev reasons. Its pretty much there when i am bored in class because i work on the game at home and the graphics at school)

So this week i have some goals to finish here they are
-Menu
-basic settings
-Day and night
-zombies get harder each day
-win factor
- zombie spawns
-lose factor
-first graphics

Plus if i have time
-loot spawns
-basic defenses

So if i have that all done i will put up a game page for the game and maybe even a download for ALPHA 1.0

Hey i just realized that this blog isn't as small as i first thought it would be going to have fun this week with this and maybe impress my teacher

Kiwi Monday Week 3 (19/5/14)

As i said last week nothing much will be accomplished this week which is exactly what happened so i am very sorry for the one or two people who actually read this i did nothing this week and i kinda upset because i really wanted to be able to play a game where you can die and win which was my goal after i got the inventory system in which i have done i don't know if i said that last week or did that last week i just need to polish it up so add functions to it and get to be ergonomically designed (i have been using that a lot in my design class)

So this week i have high expectations for myself and i am going to try get a big chunk of the game finished which is really all i need to pass the internal which is really basic stuff so if wanted to get excellence i could just do a game which has zombies run at you round by round until you die. (That is kinda the same game as Area but what the heck)

This little blog is a little messy but what the heck if you are actually reading this its the future and the game has been really successful or you just have nothing better to do. (I really hope its the first one)

The Kiwi Monday week 2 (12/5/14)

So last week I planned out how and what order I was going to make my game in. I also made a pargraph explaining how my game plays out. This helped me to understand what I needed to add and when.
Here it is (its a notepad file on my computer)

Defenders a 2d side scrolling platformed with fast passed game play.
Your objective in the game is to defend your base against incoming
attackers(Zombies, Bandits, players, mutants) While you survive
during the day the zombie count is minimal and this allows you to
scavenge for supply's in near by towns. In these towns you can find
basic supply's, building materials and other survivors. These are
key to find because each night the zombies become sufficiently harder
to defend against. During the night zombies rush your base and become
extremely harder to kill. They will ever attack your base or you every
survivor you pick up increases the amount of life's you have by one
because when you die you will become one of your survivors. Your base
will be able to be expanded with other supply's to increase your
survival rate. You can also bring your friends along to help defend
or defend against. There is no way to win the game your death is
guaranteed but how long can you defend civilization.

But the problem with this is that it is in the wrong order kinda I found quickly that i needed inventory before anything else. This is because I didn't want you to just be able to shoot and you had to pick up and item and to do that you need inventory. Now this was really puzzling me so that's the only thing i have done this week which i am quite disappointed about and know that i have finally figured it out I haven't stopped hitting myself in the face. I figured this out with the help of this tutorial to get the basics down then just adding and adjusting stuff to suit my game and my games needs. (HERE IS THE TUTORIAL HAVE A LOOK Gmc.yoyogames.com ) It has really helped and out and showed me how to put my thoughts into words.

My teacher is making us work on our design external this week and wont let us work on our games until next week so there wont be much progress this week and i also am editing a montage for the Film Riot 5 year anniversary. I really want to win so I am spending to much of my time on it.

Well its been a couple of weeks since last time i posted a blog. I have had school holidays and i bought Dayz and even though its in alpha its bloody addicting. So I am back to school and ready to do some hardcore programming. So i am going to be working on my school digital project which is to make a game so I am going to holt work on The arena and continue work on Decay zone my digital project.

Decay zone is pretty much a side scrolling fast paced zombie defending game and i will put for information on the games page

Also this is going to be my blogging format from now own 1 blog on my progress every Monday and its going to be called the kiwi Monday. Instead of making a daily blog which is short and dosn't tell you much i will maker a weekly blog which has a lot more information in it than if i did daily blogs and it will make it look like i have actually done something over the week. The blogs will be posted on a Monday around 6pm NZ time.

If anyone is wanting to know how to do pixel art like in my screen shots and profile pic just send me message or if you want any kind of tutorial in game maker in general msg me. I will be glad to do it. I am going to hopefully spend the rest of my night planning out my design process for my game 'Decay zone'.

Since my Game maker save file got courted some how I had to start again(Well I had a back up where you could move a circle around) So today I spent it making sprites because the original sprites where made in game maker so they where also lost in the corruption. This time I made them in Photoshop which was a lot easier than game maker. So if my file happens to get corrupted i will still have the sprites.

PRO TIP: Back up your files all the time no matter what!!!!

So luckily I took a screen shot of my character yesterday so i was able to copy him over the only thing i had to redo completely was the tile set which wasn't so hard. Pretty much the rest of my night is going to be spent cleaning my code and implementing my graphics and i almost forgot BACKING UP ALL MY WORK ON MY OFFSHORE COMPUTER!!!!!

Help

I just woke up to find that when i tried to open my game maker file it said it was corrupted????
I then tried to open the back up of my game and found that all it is is a circle that can move around!!!(That takes like 1 minute to make)
All my art I did yesterday and all the coding holy shit! And for some stupid reason i didn't back any of it up so yesterday was a waste and i really liked my game art.

Please if anyone knows how to fix this problem help me

Today i got the basic engine for game working and some art work. I think the game is looking really good and i think it is going to turn out really good.

The Plan

So I have decided to release a game for the first time. I have made many games before but never actually showed them to people or finished them. These little game projects where for me to play around with different mechanics and make some stuff but now i have decided to make a game and show it to people.

I'm going to be making something simple and that I can actually finish, I will be using the game maker engine which is really easy and fast to use.
The game play will mostly consist of fighting waves of enemys and defeating boss's. You will be placed in arena and fight waves of zombies or zombie like creatures and at the end of so many waves you will have to fight a zombie boss. This cycle will get harder each arena you defeat and new or improved enemy's will be encounter in each new arena. You beat the game by destroying the final arena.

This is just a basic outline of the game I still need to figure out the story and how to game play is actually going to work but for know I think that it is good start for my first finished game.
