Description

This is a demo of the FMOD session I made for the student game Nebulous this past spring (2015). It features four different music states: Ambient, Possession, Swarmer, and Striker. In Nebulous, the player is an incorporeal entity that possesses space ships (swarmers and strikers) in order to defend its nebula.

FMOD is given small musical clips and randomizes many elements of their playback (space between repetitions, panning, volume, and sometimes pitch). The example I circle with my mouse at 1:10 is to highlight how the rhythmically timed procedural cells work. I use a scatterer sound with "Interval Between Sounds" set to 2.73 seconds (or a measure at 88 bpm) to get a rhythmically consistent figure while still utilizing the other features of the scatterer sound.
