Thanks for that extensive response Joazzz. I didn't intend to make you out as being mean and deliberately crushing our hopes. I did have to address the lack of awesome new marines in this release, after having presented your renders in the previous news article.

At this point in the mods life, it seems that all of us creators have other things we would rather be doing with out free time than working on EX (including myself).

Before you showed up at the EX Discord, progress had been pretty slow and morale ebbing. I was already looking for a way to tie it up in a neat knot and call EX done.

A lot of folks got very excited by your promise to make us new marine models. I admit to thinking "oh no.. more work for me", but I didn;t want to discourage you either. You seemed to know what you were doing and were making good progress without needing any art direction from me. Maybe I should have been more sceptical and not posted about the promised models until they were in my hands, but I did, because I believed you could deliver.

Kharos was less well known, but introduced to me as part of your posse and with a portfolio of videos, I had no reason to doubt he'd be able to deliver too. Turns out Kharos didn't really know how much work was involved. I did know, having done all that work myself over the preceeding dozen years, but he seemed confident, so I have Kharos the benefit of the doubt.

Bouyed up by the promise of new models and new animations (made by an actual art specialists, not a jack of all trades like myself), the community was waiting with excitement for them to be delivered. Then bit by bit the rug got pulled, which really crushed the spirits.

It feels like we've got things we can be doing with our hobby that are more productive than wasting more time on this old an knackered Source mod.

Was that your marines I saw in the Arma 40k? The marine helmets an shoulder pads looked kinda familiar... If you want to give them a shout out here, please do, i'm sure anyone reading this far would also be interested in that project.

I've not heard that one before. If you have a dump file in your steam/dumps/ folder dated with the crash you can send it to leader@40ksource.com and I will try to resolve the issue.

Sorry, no. EX does not have Linux so files.

As the lone coder for this mod I don't feels it's worth the hassle to try and get a Linux build environment running and port the VS solution to a form that will build there.

Not necessarily, this is chaos after all >:D

There was some inspiration from Khorne berserkers / Kharn in the model design, but it's more about getting a variety of looks for the classes.

I'm the only EX animator, and i'm also the only coder, build master and release manager. Re-doing a time intensive, but functional piece of work like the player animations is not a priority.

Still no bots, but the player count has been quite high since the Alpha 8.70 and you can have some success getting a pick up game going from out Discord channel Discordapp.com

Yes I did contact GW about putting EX on the Steam store. GW says we're fine to carry on as we are, but they we cannot put EX on the Steam store as that counts as commercial distribution (even if it's free to download and play), which is against the terms of use set out by GW.

I guess they don't want us competing with their licence paying partners.

Thanks for your vote Kachibrach!

There are templates for making your own skins available ( Drive.google.com ) , however that pack is rather out of date and is missing templates for the Apothecary, Terminator and Dreadnaught classes.

Making templates for those newer classes should be the first step in my revisit of the chapter packs one the Scout class has been added.

1) 4v4 makes a good game, 6v6 makes a great game and 8v8 is mad fun. Sadly player population has been dwindling :(

Not sure if everyone is busy painting primaris, playing other 40k games or the fortnightly 200MB patches are too much hassle.

2) The magic eight-ball says "outlook not good". With the help of more contributors it would be more likely.

3) It's the 40k name that brings in the players. Sadly, no-one is going to search for "that game team rival species made" on Steam. Replacing 12 years worth of content mods is no trivial task.

Jerkakame : Probably not, previous efforts have proven to be quite time consuming, distracting from actually making new content to put into the mod.

forealdo : Yes, it is Chaos.

@Secret_Coming : No, it's Source.

Jerkakame : The objective chain system in use by EX is not suitable for 3 way battles. As of version 8.70 only IMP vs NID and IMP vs CSM modes are supported.

Possible, but unlikely. Unfortunately I do not have the skill/patience to add (worthwhile) bots to the mod.

The EX source code is not public. I might be willing to share it with you if:
a) I trusted you (anonymous guest account)
b) I thought you could actually do what you are suggesting (need to see examples of previous C++ work on linux and in Source)

For whatever reason the server browser does not recognise EX servers. As a workaround the addresses of EX servers are posted to the group page so you can copy them into the server address box and connect that way.

There are no Linux specific binaries in the package and it has not been tested on Linux, so probably not.

That said I don't know how Source works with various compatibility layers that are available.
