Starlink.tasharen.com always has the latest versions available for download. If you've started playing using a full version, you can continue playing with the latest free version and your progress and full version status will carry over.
Linux update is... a little troublesome on Desura, unfortunately -- so there is a delay longer than usual.

Desura version should be full, not lite, and the latest build as of this writing is 126, which has been published on Desura for all 3 platforms about a week ago. Build number is shown right below the "STARLINK" logo on the main menu. Upgrade should be right through Desura, same way you got it. Get in touch with me via email to support at tasharen.com and let's figure out what you're doing wrong.
Nope, you don't need anything. Web player is only needed if you want to play without downloading the actual game. Tech specs? Anything that supports shaders. This means iPhone 3GS and up. Internet is not required.
You need to be able to do 35,000 damage in under 10 seconds. Park your frigate in between of two towers with explosive ammo equipped, pop Now or Never and Good Stuff, and you should have a much better luck. :)
You get a message when you accomplish it correctly.

Sigh. Desura fails me then. I also can't test the game myself on Desura as it's not letting me install it, even after activating a key on my account. One would think that they'd make it more straightforward... I'll try to get in touch with them.
You should be able to generate a key via Desura. Use this key to unlock all features.
You already can. Click a unit to tell your crew to focus all their efforts on it. You can also hold the Good Stuff button to tell your crew to hold fire.
No difference. You can play using whichever client is more convenient for you.
Linux support is getting added in Unity 4.0, so ETA on that is roughly end of this month (assuming Unity will push it as I expect they will).
