First off, thank you for a mod like this! This is something I always loved about SoC vs the other games. Though I like the idea of the detector, I always thought it was strange that artefacts were made so much harder to get in the later games while making them less beneficial too.

Anyway, for me with Anomaly 1.5.2 and this mod, I can't seem to find any artefacts at all in my playthrough detector or no (I have a veles). I've searched the Cordon, Garbage, Rostok/Wild Territory, and Yantar and have been through a few blowouts now, but nothing has appeared.

I'm running Stalker Anomaly 1.5.2 (with modded exes for DLTX) with this artefact mod, "repair at any condition" mod, "glowing anomalies", and "battery recycled". None of them see to make changes to the artefacts/ranking so I don't think there would be a conflict.

Was really worried when I saw the IndieDB page basically go dark for this project a while back. I'm really glad to see it finally got a port to PC! I'll be grabbing it for sure as I loved its aesthetics and it's a tower defense game that actually understands that a horde of monsters means more than 4 dudes marching to your base.

Three points:

(1) This is to specifically fix the TACITUS (0.52) mod (see link above on this page). However, deleting the .big video files from the C&C 3 folder is necessary for ME to get C&C 3 to run AT ALL on windows 10. Why put this guide here? There's virtually no discussion on the other page and this is where I looked when trying to fix this issue. Same mod author and TACITUS is a revival of the reloaded mod.

(2) I'm on Windows 10, you might be on a different operating system.

(3) This was for the Steam version, you might be on the retail or through another store.

But since you seem to think I have a malicious agenda, here's images of what I'm talking about:

Imgur.com

So what do these changes do?

Well, for me, C&C/Kane's Wrath seems to crash to a black screen when trying to load CGI cutscenes. From looking online it seems to be a problem with some users and the VP6 codec the files use. My workaround is to delete these files and then delete the reference in the mod that tries to call those files. If I just delete the .big files then the vanilla game(s) work fine, but the mod crashes when loading the first mission. If I make the edit to the ini, then this fixes the mod as well.

All this impacts is that all live-action/CGI videos will no longer play and thus, for me, the game becomes playable again. This workaround also works for Kane's Wrath Reloaded, but the .big file names are different (since the mod name is different). I stuck with Tacitus since it's a "successor" to this mod.

Hopefully the mod author can chime in for this issue but when I had originally posted I noticed a comment saying they were stepping away from modding for a while.

Command & Conquer: Rivals (ughh) was made solely to enforce EA's copyright claims and try to get some quick cash on the remaining goodwill of C&C fans (god I hope it doesn't work).

EA will absolutely come down on any project like this as they will see it as a direct threat to their IP. They don't get a flying f*ck about the C&C universe or its fans. However, they will enforce their IP because, well they're not a company like Valve and all they see is $$$ rather than building a lasting, loyal fanbase. See: Every beloved company EA has taken out behind the shed and shot.

This is for the sanity of anyone who ran into the same issue as me on Windows 10 x64 trying to get C&C 3 and/or mods running. Here's how I got past the black screen after the EA logo for both vanilla C&C3; and Reloaded / Tacitus mod:

Go to your install folder for C&C 3. I installed via steam to my C: drive so it was:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars" For me.

Now go to the folder called "movies" and delete all the "movie.big" files. This will cause the videos to no longer play, but the game will now work. Windows 10 seems to have an issue with decoding/playing the VP6 video files C&C uses (at least on all of the machines I've messed with). No amount of compatibility settings or codec tweaks fixed the issue outside of deleting the files. Launch vanilla C&C 3 and it should go straight to the main menu now.

Now to fix the tacticus mod. You'll need a .big file extractor. I used "C&C BIG Extractor" (search with Google).

Go to the mods install folder under your My Documents (for me: "C:\Users\*your profile name*\Documents\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\mods") and open the "TacitusA_0.52_Misc.big" file.

Now look for and extract "data\ini\video.ini". Make sure to place it in the same folder as the "TacitusA_0.52.Misc.big" file, it will keep the file path of "data\ini\video.ini".

Open the "video.ini" file in notepad and delete everything after "#define VIDEO_VOLUME 55". Then add the line "End" and save the file. This will force the mod to skip the loading of all video files. Congrats, your game, like mine, will now skip videos and be playable. Sucks to lose the CGI/live action cutscenes, but at least you can play the game now!

Hope this helps someone else that pulled their hair out like me. Enjoy!

PurpleGaga27, sorry for the wall o' text. If this needs to be posted somewhere else, please let me know. I spent days combing the web before coming up with this fix and have not seen it posted anywhere else.

Oh man! New Vegas and Morrowind are like two of my all-time favorite RPGs. With Skywind and Fallout 4: New Vegas in the works... Forget new AAA titles filled with micro-transactions, just give me these awesome revivals!
