Do you like to explore labyrinthine dungeons for hours ? To find heaps of treasures, items and gear ? To fall victim to a lot of vicious traps, and to die just before reaching the merchant because of some huge monster that tore you apart in a single strike ? Then Verlies was designed just for you !

I saw the announcement for this game on another blog (don't remember which) and I bought it almost immediately. I loved the fact that everything is random and that it's a dungeon crawler in the old 90's style. Personally, I'm a big fan of the old-school graphics, it really evokes the games of my youth, mainly Skullkeep, which was one of my favorites. I've put some time into it tonight, and while I haven't gotten far, I have a lot of experience with dungeon crawlers and wanted to offer some initial feedback. - What made this an instant purchase for me was the focus on random generation and a new experience each time. This really seems to be a "pure" dungeon crawler, in the spirit of Dungeon Hack, which is a great thing! In conclusion, I really like Vorlies, and think I'll be playing it a lot. Mostly, though, I'm looking forward to how it improves over time. I think it is great as-is, even with the strange controls , but will hopefully continue to get better, too. |

Just tried out the game and I aggree with most of what Stinky_Whizzleteats wrote. I love randomly generated content and creepy dungeon crawling. This game succeeds on both. What I also want to emphasize is the fact, that most items have positiv AND negative effects on you. That's pretty cool, because equipment management and the choices the player has to make get much more interesting than just "+2 is better than +1". The controls take quite some time to get used to, though. It really would have been better to just use the good old "turn left", "turn right", "forward", "backward" principle. But I guess it would be too much work to add that now. On one of my first tries I ran into a problem and took a screenshot of it: I.imgur.com |
