Happy new year!
Well well, I've "finished" the new car, well when I say "finished" I actually mean, the geometry is finished(ish) - I still have the very big task of importing the model into Unity, setting up the suspension / driving phsyics, not to mention the shaders / normal maps..
(Oh, and altering the entire engine so that it copes with two cars, and all the backend database changes that brings!)
So not a lot to do then! :D
But still, let me post some stuff about the car:
A side view of the car, here you can see the netting in the cockpit to keep the driver inside.
Overall I'm pleased with the profile of the car from this angle. I plan on making a few "body skins" so that the cowling where it says "10" will have different racing liveries, (this is the post-apocolyptic skin) - this will also have different cowling colours too..
A view from the back, showing the back window meshing, and the nitrous canister strapped to the back (accompanied by lots of warning stickers!)
A view from inside the finished cockpit. (With a new more basic steering wheel) - and the foot peddles and NEW taco dials (with more poly's)
A view from the drivers position. (Although in no way final - the Field of View is probably wrong here - this will take quite a lot of tweaking in the engine)
And a final shot from the front suspension...
Hope everyone likes the look of the new car. Please feel free to drop me any comments below!
Edit:
Oh - and just a quick comment - thanks for the donations from various people, I'm still a LONG way off my target of buying a unity pro license but every little helps. (I'd absolutely LOVE to get Unity 3.5 when it's released as that has a Level of Detail system - which will definitely be required for Multiplayer) - I'm not sure Unity can cope with more than one of the cars above being rendered with the terrain and track and everything else! (the car above has 35,000 polygons! EEK!)
Please please please consider donating if you haven't already, (or if you have, consider doing it again!) - every penny donated is sitting in an account waiting till it reaches the fee for a license... (Approximately 1000 euros'!)
Anyway, I'm going to go back to sorting out the game with this new car implemented. Video soon? Who knows....
Thanks for reading.
Looks awesome!
Thanks! - Implementing into Unity is going well, (after a slow initial start) - have the front suspension working already... Going to do the back tomorrow, then hook the car into the level loading system, do a bit of backend database work, and then... RELEASE!
Sweet. Good luck!
am very interested to see this carmodel in your game,
great progress,
leon
It's now fully drivable in the engine, I'm going to post a video of it today. Working on the physics a bit so that it feels like a different car. I've got a few hours tweaking ahead of me.
One thing that didn't occur to me before is that the car has to be different, but also has to be able to complete the jumps on the track! (a balancing act I didn't consider earlier)
An update, at last! :o
Yeahhh I know, I've been a bit slow lately, I blame christmas and New year :) - I'm hoping for a few more regular updates from this point on.
