Shallow Space is a 3D Real Time Strategy game inspired by Nexus: The Jupiter incident and Homeworld. Shallow Space focuses on organised mass RTS space combat in a fully 3D environment. Ships in Shallow Space are nearly always grouped into Flotillas and Wings, and orders issued to these structures cascade to the subordinate members. Rather than stressing out clicking on the units or dragging selection boxes during the heat of battle, standing orders are issued in advance leaving you to zoom around, activating abilities and arranging support and reinforcements. Should the tide turn in battle traditional control is still available.
Been a little quiet from us lately as we've had to go back to the drawing board on a number of things about the idea. 'Astrometrics' which was planned to play separately from the instances of battle would have made multi-player a nightmare, so instead we've opted for large zones, with Flotilla maneavours and battle instancing happening right in the same game area. This video should give you an idea of that and also the royal shit-ton of other improvements made.
The scope remains at an entire planetary system but you'll play a small cog in a large wheel and we've have constructed a couple of prototypes in the background to prove that concurrent activity around the other planets is possible.
The Homeworld remake gets released at the end of the month so we've put the Kickstarter back a month and we are very very close to beginning closed alpha testing in prep. for Early Access. Enjoy.
Aww carp, it's sad you had to let go that part of the game. I was very much looking forward to it. Nevertheless the alternative seems very awesome enough too.
Well it's not been let go off, Astrometrics is still very much in-game, but it'll be used for a minimap and for travelling between planets. Cheers dude, hope you're well.
Looks great! I support every idea concerning multi-player! :D Is Early Access will mean that we can buy the game and play it as it develops? Will there be accessible on Steam? Lastly, are the original ship models from earlier development stage still in the game? Such like: Indiedb.com and Indiedb.com and Indiedb.com
Hey cheers, the trouble is that they don't really match up to the standard of the newer ships and they are publicly available on the Unity asset store (meaning you'll probably spot them in other games)
Still that big old battleship will be appearing for sure and if we're really strapped for models i'll put them in as like Tech I antique ships used by AIM (Mercs) or the APF (Pirates)
Glad you approve and I really appreciate the support :)
Oh and yes it will be Early Access, we have some exciting ideas planned and once the close alpha has happened (very soon) we'll put models, weapons and continually increase the play area during EA - really excited about that! It'll be like free DLC every week! lol
OMG man this is great! I cant way to participate. Keep up the excellent work.
