Hello again, everyone! We're back with our second Devlog. To contrast a bit with the first one, today we'll give a bit of insight on how our artstyle was developed, including our main inspirations. Before we start, however, I'd like to also notify everyone that those devlogs will be weekly (at least for the foreseeable future). We'll be pumping out one of those every week, so we'll keep going on steadily here for quite some time!

One of our battle scenes. Let's forget the floating enemy and the placeholder text for now...

As said on the introduction, then, we'll take a bit of a look on our art today. We've been posting some screenshots of the game scenes where you can see many of the assets, the stylistic inspirations stem from a more cartoon-ish design, implementing outlines and solid colors, be it on our 2D art or our 3D assets (as can be seen with the cel-shading from the image above). But what's most unique here is our theming, that also influenced many parts of the design-- Portuguese culture and folklore.

Some of you might have already noticed, but the battle scene of the image above is based on the Olaias Station, stated on the Lisbon Metro complex. Moreover, the monster above is Adamastor's Tentacles, which is also Portuguese, though based on actual folklore and not any location (on this specific case taken from the Lusiads). Of course, this is all relevant to the story of the game, that clashes modern Portuguese locations with these mythical, cultural creatures, but we'll give a bit more detail on that in another devlog. Also, here's the enemy's full render with it's various versions!:

That's not all! We of course won't be showing every enemy and their lore here, otherwise this devlog would get too long, but we'd like to take the opportunity to introduce our main character! This is the first time here that we show her, and as some of you might have noticed she's also on the first image-- Moira:

Isn't she cute? Sharing the game's name, Moira is a witch that lives and studies in modern Portugal, and needs to find and kill creatures of Portuguese folklore to become more powerful, all while collecting their remains to combine with stronger cards so she'll be able to hunt even stronger legends and creatures.

Now why exactly she does that is something that we'll be saving for the future! Thanks once again for everyone reading, and we hope to see you next week as well. Our next issue will be about some game systems and the gameplay loop, so stay tuned!
