Today I start shaping the world of JBS 3D in Unity 3D, for the beginning stages I generally set up the base terrain and some water effects if necessary (ponds, lakes, rivers, etc.). The water to me plays a major role in the gameplay, as I am sure many of you have encountered before, in many games water symbolizes life or death for your character. Luckily in this game you will be able to freely roam in the water without a worry. After setting the main foundation for the area in which gameplay with take place, implementing a usable character for 3rd person RPG games, I decided to put in a few trees to sizing, etc. and it turned out great.
With a few trees down to mark where I will have Shyla’s house located at, I took the character for a spin around my newly built area. I actually had to tinker with the water effects a bit to get things the way I wanted them (movement direction, current speed, reflection material, etc.) and in the end I was satisfied with the very basic setup I had accomplished within just a few hours.
I feel this is one of the most crucial parts of the level design, the beginning stages, as it shapes everything else that follows. This is as far as I can go for now but there will be more progress to come very soon, make sure to check in each day or every other day for more updates.
