From what I've noticed is that the tileset doesn't support some of the new plants. But yes to answer your question,he's not going to deviate from the ASCII graphics anytime soon.
Well there's the chillweed: which lets you make chill wine. cabbage, moss, wild radishes, and lichen. Now I'm not sure what all of that is used for (yet) but I do know that almost every single new plant and a few of the others are represented as trees in the tileset.

To use the new tileset as shown in the picture above go to: settings and change the Renderer to Tileset then restart goblin camp and there you go. :)
