Exploit: Zero Day isn't an Alternate Reality Game, or ARG, but it borrows heavily from that form. ARGs are usually characterized by being transmedia: they incorporate different mediums including real life. You might call a phone number to hear a message or visit a site in person for a flash-mob-style gathering. We are, however, using the concepts of collaborative storytelling and false narrative. Part of that is setting up the website for Samsara Digital, which will hopefully be a good source of in-character news and background information for the game world.
We've already experimented a bit with a research metapuzzle, where information gleaned from puzzle solutions had to be collated and researched by players working together to find the ultimate answer. That's something we'd love to do more of. We've even got plans for which we're already seeding teasers for more long-term enigmas.
Zero Day is going to let us do a lot of experimentation with games and storytelling. The more successful it is, the more freedom we'll have to try things out. You can show your support by signing up for the mailing list and the next phase of the alpha at: Fpgam.es
