The Old God has left the world and the pretenders are awakening and coming out from hiding. You start the game by designing one of the pretender gods that will compete for true ascension to godhood. The type of god can range from a magically powerful arch mage to an ancient kraken or a mystic monolith that people pray to. Your pretender controls one of over sixty different nations and with the help of that nation he will spread his word and battle the other pretenders. Dominions 3 is a turn based strategy game. You can play single- or multiplayer (1 - 23 players) with simultaneous turns. There are more than 1500 different units, 600 spells and 300 magic items in the game. The game also features a medieval musical score by Erik Ask Uppmark and Anna Rynefors, both awarded the title of Musicians of the Realm by the Swedish Zornmärkeskommiten. Dominions 3 is a highly detailed game and a 300 page pdf manual is included in the download.

Is there any particular reason why there have only been 2 maps released made using the AoM editor? Although I have say I've enjoyed many custom maps made by many modders, so whatever the map looks like, playing right is more important. But with that being said...

They are so beautiful. I feel like I'm transported to a different world when I load up AoMOgre (Forum.shrapnelgames.com).

I've played a few games on maps made by other games' map editors and they're certainly nice. The one drawback is I find it more difficult to distinguish my units than on less realistic looking maps. That, combined with the fact that of course you need to have a copy of the game with the map editor in order to create the map, may be part of the reason.

Btw, if you're interested in a smaller map, I've always liked DominionsFan's Fourmageddon and Ossya maps.

A number of maps were also made with the map editor from "Lords of Magic" game that looked pretty cool. But the interest tended to die off.

One of the basic conundrums with maps. When people see a map they like to pick the pretty ones with lots of details.
But when the game puts armies, buildings, arrows, etc on top of the map then its harder to play.
Blurred or low-detail maps actually can be easier to play, but people dont play them. :)

The best in-between (IMHO) can be Elmokki's maps. A lot of trial-and-error seems to have struck a workable balance there that stays popular game after game.

I agree on that. Maps that are really pretty usually are too rich in colour and are hard to play on. The classic for that is Greece Stain. It's sooo bright you can't see the flags.

Really? Can you link to some, because I used to play that game, but i hadn't seen any dom3 maps for it. You're not thinking of the heroes of might and magic or the age of wonders maps are you?

Ahh you might be right. I see reference to "looks like Lords of Magic".
But I didnt read thru them all. Here is a google for it.

That's just a search for the word map :?

Wow. Crappy link. What I tried to copy was googling for
"Lords of Magic" map site:forum.shrapnelgames.com

the search ON shrapnel sucks so I always use google with "site:forum.shrapnelgames.com" for more search options and better results
