Dark Star is aimed at providing the player with a wide range of choices throughout the entire game. You can choose to switch allegiances, conquer your home world and create a society that you want. A bloody dictatorship, a democracy in a velvet glove or a truly peaceful democratic world. Alternatively stay with those who you start allied with and protect it at all costs. The choices you make, the battles you win and loose will determine if you achieve all that you want or die in a bloody last stand. Nothing is certain. Even those who are closest to you may find you pointing a gun at there head just looking for an excuse to pull the trigger. Set in a time when a once relatively peaceful race is now falling apart and its darkest hours near. You must once again bring order via the best means you see fit.
The game play is a fusion of First Person gun action and Space Fighter action.
