In today's devlog we'll take a look at the NPC characters that you'll see in-game, and also our thoughts about how we're thinking about adding more of them.
During the starting phase of the game, you'll be accompanied by the Boatman. He will be the one who will explain how the village works by text in a tutorial where he'll tell you to do certain things in order, and you'll have to click and move stuff around, so you understand the general game-loop of the game, before you're given total freedom of the village.
After the tutorial, we're thinking of letting you also talk to him in the docks, where we will stand as a "Shop NPC". We're thinking about making so every shop has a "Shop NPC" that will ask you something along the lines of "What're going to buy?" and stand on the side of the screen to give more life to the village, making so the shops aren't just menus but places where people work in. These NPC's might also give you general advice on what is the best thing to do, but we're currently not sure about that.
This is a sketch of how a possible NPC for the Church or Nursery that we're thinking about adding might look like:
Other than the "Shop NPC" we're going to have the villagers that you can send on trips and when you select the docks you'll be able to see an image of them, so to make the audience understand that they'll be sending actual people on those trips and not just numbers.

Our game artist has also made some other sketches of characters for the village with general proposes, but we might scrap some of these because we're unsure if we should follow the historical events and make the NPC's that you can send on trips only men or if we should just do our thing and make it so you can send women aswell.
