Hi

I've only recently returned to playing PC games and I've found I still enjoy playing the old RTS games like Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander (also Forged Alliance), the earlier C&C and Red Alert games, and others like Empire Earth and Age Of Empires II. I'm looking for anything similar to those games but would love to find some games that have their own random map generator. I haven't played Empire Earth or AOEII for ages but believe they have that feature.

I've looked at reviews and videos of Planetary Annihilation but it does not appeal to me, mainly because of the spherical game-play map I think.

So does anyone know of any similar games (must have single-player feature) that include a random map generator?

Thanks.

PS. I tried Zero-K (a Spring Engine game) but my Laptop is just too slow for it.

PPS. Definitely don't like fantasy games, though I guess TA and SupCom could be classified as science fantasy.

I miss RTS games that have random map generators the way Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun did :(

Hi DoomVideoVault,

Guess I'll just have to dig out Red Alert 2 and TibSun.

Thanks for the reply.

Cheers.

Rise of Nations is a low-end RTS game with a random map generator.

Also, if you haven't played AoE II in ages, you'll find it quite refreshing, since there is an official HD remake of it, a new expansion (Age of Empires II: The Forgotten) and an awesome mod Moddb.com.

Ahh I miss the old-school 2D RTS games...

Thanks Thanoshld, I'll take a look at them.

For anyone interested, Tiberian Sun can be difficult to get running on Windows 8 64 bit. I found a patch at

Cnc-comm.com

along with lots of helpful information. They also have an installer for those who don't already have the game, which is now freeware.

Cheers.
