Read this week's development review for our upcoming Ale Abbey! (hint: new surprise inside)

Posted by on

Now that we got your attention, we have been working on quite a few stuff that we'd like to share with you. A couple of them you already know, like the in-game notification system and the Superiors' room. But what about that elusive surprise we have in store for you?

Well... read on and find out ;)

-- Progress with the Superiors' room

Almost making it this month's challenge, with Raimo working on multiple fronts, we managed to progress the Monastery Superiors' room. Not a place to ponder, but definitely a place to enjoy the luxury of authority, this room will be lavish, with furniture that is more intricate and complex as well as a far better use of space for a single inhabitant (as if we needed anything else to add to this splendor...).

Still, this room is WIP. You can expect to see some corrections and additions in the future.

-- Spamming notifications (in a good way)

And following up on our work with in-game notifications these past couple of months, variety and efficiency are the name of the game. We've added more notification types, changed some of the aesthetics around them, and added extra assets to make their types more distinguishable.

They work so smoothly that Emiliano himself affirms that the internal build feels so much more satisfying.

We are also still actively working on other parts of the notifications UI, like the beer delivery mini-map ;)

-- New Biome revealed

You kept reading, so it's time for your surprise. We have hinted in the past that there will be other biomes where your Monastery could reside. So far we have worked extensively on what many would identify as the Bavarian region (with the unmistakable Watzmaan in the horizon).

This next biome will be a representation of a region a bit more to the south of the first one... namely, Tuscany!

And a bit of team gossip, our composer Clint was particularly happy about the addition of this new biome.

-- Non-traditional locales that brew?

We introduced a new biome... and we got to thinking, are there any non-famous brewing locations that actually produce quality beer? You already knew about Bavaria, Czech Republic, and Ireland... but what about:

  • New Zealand: New Zealand's craft beer scene has taken off, with breweries situated in stunning natural landscapes. Some breweries incorporate indigenous ingredients, such as the native manuka honey, into their brews
  • Japan: Japanese breweries often combine traditional brewing techniques with modern innovation. Breweries like Sapporo, located in Hokkaido, have integrated cutting-edge technology with centuries-old brewing methods
  • Canada: Canadian breweries, particularly those in British Columbia, often incorporate local ingredients like Pacific Northwest hops and wild berries. Breweries in the remote Yukon region embrace isolation and craft unique beers
  • Australia: Australian breweries can be found in various scenic locations, from coastal cities to the rugged Outback. Some breweries even incorporate native botanicals and spices into their brews
  • South Africa: South African craft breweries often incorporate indigenous ingredients like rooibos and honeybush tea into their beers. The scenic Winelands region is home to several innovative breweries

Have you tried any beers from these regions? What did you think? Do you know of any other brewing up-and-coming locations that we might have missed?

Tune in next week for more of Ale Abbey's news! For now, enjoy your weekend responsibly ;)
