WazHack is a procedurally-generated dungeon game. This is not a button mashfest - you can spend all the time you need contemplating your actions. With over 300 different types of items to be found, there are many different ways to deal with the more than 130 different types of monsters. You will have to use your sword or staff as much as your inventory. It's not a game of plodding to the end and winning (though it is winnable), it's about experiencing the attempt... and learning lessons that will help your next valiant attempt!

It seems that there are two seperate purchases to make. I chose what I
thought was the only one and bought the standalone Desura copy of the
game. It works fine, but the newest version is always a bugfix or ten
ahead of that version. And it is the web based version. To use it you
have to log in to your "Guild Account" that is not actually what it
seems. Meaning I log in with my login details through Desura's website
and "Link to Wazhack" from there. But it works. The problem is that I am
unsure if I am doomed to run into "Waz the Hacker" later in the game
since I did not buy the "Guild account" that costs the same but does not
work with the perpetually outdated standalone version.

I do not expect them to give me a "Guild account" for free. But I would
certainly like to know if I am doomed unless I cough up more money,
meaning that the standalone was a bait-and-switch. And some transparency
would be nice for others who may make the mistake I may have made.

BTW, I made a thread on another forum about this. You are more than welcome to join and post answers there, or I can transcribe your replies here over there. Here is the link.

Thank you in advance.

Your standalone account should work fine in the browser version - Also It's not that the standalones outdated, It's just that Desura takes like 24-30 hours to process an uploaded patch, so yeah.

Just make sure that you're getting the lower and higher case right in the browser version, i thought my account didn't work either but turns out i capitalized the H in hotmail.

I have been using the account for the browser version. I am simply unsure weather i risk encountering Wax the Hacker when I get really deep in the game.

Here is the reference to what I am talking about.
Wazhack.appspot.com
"If you are not a guild member, you will eventually meet Waz the Hacker, who will try, quite effectively, to slay you if you try to go deep into the dungeon. You can think of non-membership as a generous demo mode. "

This above quote along with the fact that the guild membership seems separate from the Desura purchase is why I am unsure.

Thank you for the help nonetheless.

I would think that "Waz The Hacker" wouldn't be there, in the Standalone Windows version, since we actually purchased it - and therefore the guild membership.

I suppose Waz removed it from the Windows version.. but that would have to be verified by the man himself.

Eventually, web and standalone will have exactly the same features, and buying on either will give the other as well. It's taking time to integrate both systems. For now, be sure to "Connect" your Desura game. This will give you a login for the web version.

Voting is off now for the web version anyway, since Wish voting was getting out of hand (too many people wishing for silly stuff). I'm going to turn it into a more normal suggestion voting system.

Yes, Waz no longer comes in the game, just a dialog saying the demo is over. I'll bring him back one day.

Since I am the original poster in this thread, I should let you guys know I am keeping a watch on this thread. Waz is very easy to communicate with and has answered many questions via a friend who bothered to use the IRC link in the Wazhack DOT COM site. (Spelled that way to avoid being snipped automagically.)

If anyone reading this has not bought the game, but loves Nethack/Slash'Em or any of the innumerable clones thereof, please buy it. You not only are supporting a game that helps those who refused to try Nethack and the other such games due to the lack of graphics, but you also will enjoy the crap out of it. Trust me on that last part at least. ;) And note that multiplayer only happens when you buy the game.

There are many benefits of playing a multiplayer game. Items your character does not need can be given to the other players who will make better use of them. And the player with the best Charisma will do all the selling. That and the fact that starvation can and does happen even to the best players can give you good reason to play multiplayer. Your friends can give you some food so you do not have to starve to death or risk that by searching for food.

As with any complex game, there are sometimes minor problems that happen and you can bet your life they will be fixed if at all possible. Thank you Waz. :)

Update: buying on Web or Desura gives access to the other. I've not been able to do any integration on the Android side though: Google Play does not allow any off-market purchasing.

FYI to the anxious, it takes about an hour after connecting the game from desura to get web log in info. :)
