Thrive is a game about the universe - we want to let you play however you want, make whatever you want, and live however you like. Thrive will be a free, open-source game created by an online community of dedicated volunteers. In first person mode, your creature's sensory organs determine what its world will look like. These are mock-ups of possible methods for rendering the game, dependent on the sensory organs you have.
Interesting idea but I can see some of them hurting after a while and others bing an issue for the colour blind.
Will it also change the Hud/Menu screens ?
Hud/ menu screens will retain their look no matter what your creature sees. all render methods will be toggleable, so you can switch them on or off if they get frustrating. You can also go into 3rd person.

This is cool and all, but what exactly is the purpose of this? Examples of shaders for use in the game? A demonstration you're still working?...
The purpose is to show you how the game will look through the eyes of several alien species. I think it's a very immersing idea. Use your imagination a little. :-/
I think edge detect and the one enxt to it should be crossed off right away, night vision should be darken'd and only work at night Monochrome should be darken'd as well, noisy should be used on creatures that rely on ears or sonar could be used with monochrome because sonar cant spot colors
The current idea is to use edge detect for sonar, because it doesn't rely on color at all. We can simply render the frame without colors in any of the textures, just bump/normal maps, then apply edge detect. Noise will most likely be used in combination with other methods, such as night vision.
Would Edge Detect work for the blind creatures? :D

I liked it. But I wonder if one of those will burn my eyes...
We're worried about that, so the option to turn off the effect is there at any time. It also should be helpful early on when your organism lacks complex sensors. You can just view the world as a human would until you think the senses might be advantageous/plain old fun.

There should be a very blurry one,for like if your creature isnt used to direct sunlight,and runs into the open it can barely see.
Heat Vision would be good, as snakes IRL use that as do many other animals, and would be useful for deep sea Organisms.
i truly love this idea add flir vision, electro field perception, compass birds know where north is, these are some of the things we have found some of the life on earth to use if u can detect it with tech life can adapt to do it too if it helps them survive/eat
things like flir u wont see the clouds etc make it so the sky textures/entities don't load instead load heat blooms above animals i love seeing videos from flir cameras even if ppl are standing behind a wall u can see them in good detail eg count how many fingers they are holding up and you can see the heat bloom flowing up above the wall u can see there foot prints on the ground

Will you be able to see in infared like a snake? That would be pretty amazing!
If a creature has compound eyes, if it is an insect, will it be able to see in the strange hexagon-like viewpoints of a Fly or if it has eight eyes, a wider view?
