This is the first entry on The Retaking's devlog.
The Retaking is a 2D single-player beat 'em up/hack 'n slash inspired by arcade titles of the same genre.
When deciding for a theme for our game, we decided to try to do something related to where we were from, ending up looking at the Castle of Leiria as a source for ideas.
The theme of our game being the 1142 Retaking of Leiria by D. Afonso Henriques, from the Almohad Caliphate empire.
It is more specifically centered around Leiria's Castle, pictured below.
Our artist created both these moodboards below, one for the art style of the character, and the following one for the general art style of the project:
In conclusion, we did some art studies (moodboards) and brainstormed ideas.
