Project Star: Big Bada Boom

Hi and welcome to a new devlog for Project Star. These last two weeks were packed full with new features and bugfixes and i cannot wait to tell you about it.

To summarise what happend these last few weeks,

We have added an escape pod, that allows you to land on stations and after a quick recharge you will be able to escape to your safe and comfy hub. The idea with this feature is that it provides a common way to enter and leave. The deeper you explore the harder it is to get back to your ship. So multiple attempts might be needed to fully explore the map.

Escapepod

The map generator has been resized from 12 by 12 to 35 by 35, this allows the player to traverse deeper in the map and possibly gain better loot. It will be a harder decision to go deeper or return back to the hangar and escape with the loot you have found along the way.

Old explorers might have left some rare personal belongings, you can now find lootboxes during your expeditions, once opened it will drop some nice and juicy loot. There is still a small issue where loot will fall throught the ground, that will be solved in a later update.

Loot

Stat calculations have been redesigned. Its now technically simpler to add new stats to the game. Think about the long needed Health Regen and my personal favorite Thorns, where a portion of damage gets reflected back to the attacker.

One feature that i wanted to incorporate in the redesign was that Equipment also could have stats. This way we can design equipment that has some more unique benefits and give the player the incentive to print new equipment.

I have added some new recipes for crafting armor, you can now equip your items in the loadout screen that can be found in the hub. There are still some tooltips missing but you can see your new stats once you equip new items.

We added some damage scaling to our enemies. if you are higher leveled than your enemy, you will receive less damage; however if you try to fight enemies that are higher leveled you will receive more damage.

We also have preliminary controller support, not all feature work correctly with a controller yet but you should be able to get in game and fight some aliens. All the UI still needs to be adjusted to be easier accessible with a controller. We will focus on this in the near future.

We have added a new skill. Its called piercing shots and is an passive buff that allows your laser rifle to pierce multiple targets the damaged will be halved for every target it pierces.

We now have support for all three major platforms, Linux, MacOS and Windows. This also means the game can run on a Steamdeck. We have tested the performance and could maintain a steady 60fps at 800P. We also tested out the ROG Ally and were able to maintain at steady 120FPS at 1080P.

The feature on my list are the Spiderbots, these nasty robotic creatures will explode when in close contact with their prey. They will explode after a small delay and will deal damage to all entities in an area. You have been warned. If you destroy them before they reach you. they will immediately explode. use this to your advantage.
