SomaSim was founded in 2013 by industry veteran Robert Zubek to create classic city simulation games for modern devices and audiences. The studio’s first title, 1849, is a city management simulation game set during the California Gold Rush.
We have been fans of simulation games for years. Many years. We remember playing games like “Caesar”, “Civilization”, “Railroad Tycoon”, “SimCity” or “The Sims” before they had numbers after them. But, we played those great games on machines that can be overpowered by our current cell phones. We imagine our (much) younger selves, used to sitting in front of enormous Pentium II towers, basking in the glow of a CRT monitor waiting for a CD-ROM to load. We wonder what they would think of playing a game like Caesar III on a handheld device that weighs just over a pound. Since we’re still them, just (much) older, we think that sounds pretty fantastic.
