Machinations is a real-time strategy game where you manage and direct swarms of ships to take over and destroy your enemies. Plan your attacks carefully to gain the the most tactically advantageous Nodes (space-stations which build and house your fleet). Upgrade your Nodes with defensive lasers or build shipyards to augment your fleet. Capture super-weapons to cut swathes through your enemies' fleet. Play against up to three AI players in frantic, randomised melees matches. Or complete the Campaign mode to help Admiral Sudo (your robotic commander) reclaim his lost empire.

After more than a year we have finally got to our first public Beta released, Beta 0.0.1 (Android).

We have collected around 40 testers from a combination of friends, workmates and the good people of AVCon. That said the more the merrier, if your reading this and want to sign up head over to our website and send us your email.

It has only been three days since the release and already we have so much more data than we could ever reliably generate ourselves. The other insane thing is our tester have been filling out bug reports. Not just ‘game crashed, rage’, but real reports with useful information.

Our priority number 1 will be using the bug reports and ironing out the bugs to get the test running on a smooth game ASAP. After we have that we can start working on the new features we want to add in. The current rough list is looking like:

  • More variety and improvements to Quickplay
    • Different level shapes
    • Different starting positions
    • Options to toggle upgrades (choose what upgrades you want in the level)
  • A tutorial campaign that's actually designed to introduce a new player to the game
  • Campaign selection screen
  • Campaign level overlay showing level info (instead of that 'Not sure what we'll put here')
  • Improved sounds/music
  • Improved graphics performance (OpenGL tests are in progress)
  • And of course take into account any Beta feedback

So spare time willing you will hear from us again soon.
