Hell Denizen

The first episode happens somewhere in futuristic southern Finland, with level themes going from industrial zones to city areas. The player character codenamed MeowMeow (you can change the name) starts the game at her workplace where the demons had kept her as a slave. Now she must fight the demons and start a rebellion to overthrow the evil demon rulers and their minions.

Version 1, Release Notes:

  • Default video mode is 1600x1000 windowed
  • Forgot R as one of the default bindings for Pause
  • 256 color palette glsl postprocessing shader might not work with AMD graphics cards
  • RT World Lighting may be very slow

These things will be fixed/changed in the next or later updates. I'll collect feedback data for a few days and then address all the simple easy to fix issues for the next update. Fixing the RT World Lighting slowness can take a little longer and will be in a later update. I'm using version numbering like: 1, 2, 3, 4... So the next version will be version 2.

If you encounter any issues or have some other feedback, you can post here on Indie DB, on the official Hell Denizen Discord, message me at Twitter @susadebeast or on Steam.

Features:

Plasmagun

The game features 10 weapons with 2 firing modes on each. You can fire magnum bullets through multiple enemies, blast scattered enemies with the shotgun, mow down groups of demons with an automatic machinegun, launch guided rockets at the bigger monsters and disintegrate pretty much anything with plasma.

There are over 10 enemies, each providing a unique challenge. Starting from easy cyborg zombies and troopers with guns, you get to meet fireball throwing fiends and packs of leaping demon spawn. Later on you may encounter blood thristy brute butchers shooting ricocheting sawblades and groups of flying maggots with toxic vomit.

In addition to the 10 levels and 2 secret levels, there are 3 deathmatch / survival levels. Deathmatch is where you play against other players, and survival is played against an ever-growing army of the demons until they overwhelm you. Note: online multiplayer is not guaranteed to work properly at the moment, more testing required.

But you can play the game in local split screen multiplayer up to 4 players (should work pretty well). XInput compatible controllers required for each player. There is an autoaim option that can help aiming with a gamepad.

Future Plans:

Simple bug fix / etc updates might happen every now and then. Bigger updates with new monsters, levels or major adjustments to already existing levels less frequently, perhaps every time I have 2 to 4 new levels ready to be played. So you don't need to wait for an entire episode, 10 levels, being ready until the game gets updated.

It's possible the episode 2 and 3 levels get released in a mixed order. Though boss encounter levels get released after the previous levels in the episode have been released. Level theme and monster ideas are welcome!

I hope you have fun playing the game!
