The past 2 months have been very busy. Obviously, I went on vacation for a bit in December, and much of this month has been dominated by work.
The primary issue has been getting Gundam compatible with the latest build of the spring engine. As many of you know, you cannot use the public server to play Gundam if you don't upgrade and you cannot run gundam(YET) in the latest build.
Much of the delay had to do with changes in the way the engine handled many things. Things which break the controlling game logic behind Gundam RTS. It has been quite the hassle to get these issues resolved. On top of this there is the new research code which I am still doing ui elements for.
The biggest change this past month has been the resolution of the upgrade bug. In gundam when you ugraded a unit, it was switched out for another unit that you have now upgraded to. This caused a lot of issues! Namely, in Spring Engine 84 & 85 your factory would brick and become useless forcing you to sell it. I have fixed this issue but it has a few details I want to put out in the open.
if a unit is building and is upgraded, the unit's construction is reset and the upgraded unit will start building.
I know this is an inconvenience for many of you especially on units with long build times. I can fix the issue but it would add a few more weeks to grts as I already have several other issues I am resolving right now. Eventually I am moving away from the current factory system as well.
So I suppose I am wondering if this 1 issue is really all that big a deal to you guys. It doesn't really bother me all that much and since I plan on replacing the build system anyway, I am reluctant to spend more time on the build queue stuff. What do you guys feel? lose a few weeks that you can be playing for a feature that will eventually be replaced anyway? Or just leave it and get out a playable version since I am going to replace the build system all the same?
wait a few weeks.
Definitely wait.
what ever is easier
Ditto.
Take your time mate!
Yea just wait and take your time .
boo 3 watchers left after I posted that news. Oh well, their loss.
So it seems the consensus is to fix the minor bug. Not a problem, like I said, just will take some time.
will be amazing quick question will you ever make it a stand alone not requiring spring or is that to hard?
Depends on what you mean by stand alone?
not require or rely on spring server for multi player and i wish i could offer help some how but i dont know anything about programming or texture and that stuff tried learning but games distracted me cough gundam cough
You are not required to play on the main spring server. You can host your own server, but I want to be on the spring server. That is a choice I made because I like the potential to play more than one game on one server. I used to spend a lot of time on gamespy as a teenager. There are features to be version independent but it is a bit messy to deal with and I am still struggling with the installer stuff.
oh ok that makes sense then
when I go to lan parties for example. I host my own server. :)
oh lol well i do like that singleplayer is a different launcher now tho thats very nice :P
