Sumerian Blood: Gilgamesh Against the Gods, is a strategy+action game. You play strategy on a board but when pieces step on the same place a battle screen opens and they duel to the death. Sumerian Blood is loosly based on mesopotamian mythology and history. There will be both single player(Human Vs PC) and multiplayer(Over network or in the same machine).

A small talk about designing a pot and more gameplay elements of Sumerian Blood.

Today's blogging is about exploding pots!
I made this loveley exploding pot:

I read about pottery in Mesopotamia and that helped me to design the pot. Well, I don't think the sumerians had anything that can explode, but I used my knowledge to design the pot.
If you notice, the pot has a rope on it.
Ancient pots had a rope on them to carry them, because the clay was too weak to have handles. But in time when they were making better clay, they used handles instead of the rope. But they still had a pattern around the pot's neck, sort of to symbolize the rope.
I wonder if in certain point there were no more pots with ropes, and there were only pots with a rope pattern. What if the people didn't even remember why the rope pattern was there, and they just made it because of tradition?
So here is some pot history for you.

Apart from that, I have been thinking about the gameplay and visuals. I think I am making good advancement and I like how the game shapes\looks.
I thought of making 3 colors for board tiles, and 3 terrains. So overall there are 9 types of arena scenarios.
The 3 arena terrains are City, Desert and Grass/Plains.
In the City you will have the exploding pots. They will cause areal damage when destoryed. In the desert you will have cactus, they will cause damage if being touched. And in the plains there will be rocks, they will not cause damage but it would take 3 hits to destory one.
The 3 colors of tiles will give bonuses to the two armies. While light will five bonus to one army, dark to the other and grey will provide no advantage to any army.
I am thinking of changing the stone slob tiles into the 3 types of arena terrains I mentioned, and in addition to draw them in 3 shades to symbolize the bonus colors.

That's it for now. Ideas and comments are always welcome.
