Adventure Craft is a procedurally generated top down multiplayer adventure game inspired by games like Terraria, Starbound and Minecraft.

Post news Report RSS ADVENTURE CRAFT! New lighting implemented! Lots of Pictures!

Let there be DARKNESS! And there was darkness...And it was pretty good! We have been able to produce some beautiful results with our new lighting engine! Please have a look!

Posted by on

We have been hard at work on our new lighting engine and are now seeing the difference that the lighting is going to make in how the game looks at night. So far we are really happy how it is turning out!

I decided to add some visual "noise" to the night time shader to give the impression to the player that there is a sky above them and that moonlight is penetrating a cloud cover. This visual noise also moves very slowly from one side of the screen to the other like real clouds would at night. The effect is quite creepy!

Objects like these fairies can be set to ignore the lights in a scene allowing them to glow in the dark.

Also, objects like these torches can now have area lights attached to them. These area lights can also be animated so that the lights can flicker.

Here is a comparison shot of a goblin camp in the daytime and the night time. Below is a shot of day, night, and dusk in one scene. We are still working on adding some daytime shadowing effects as well. I plan on using that to create areas of the forest with dappled lighting effects and shadows.

Run little rabbit! For the night is dark and full of terrors! Soon the "Takers" will appear. They are the Lords of the Night.

Really nice! It's a minecraft clone but less cube-y and it looks better in my opinion because of that. I'd play this.

I'm absolutely sure Adventure Craft will not be a simple "Minecraft Clone" with own graphic style. All I've heard about it so far sounds like it has a lot of ingenious features that will make it unique and original. I'll buy and play this one for sure and I'm awaiting it eagerly!
