The Tombstone Engine is a continuation of the older C4 Engine, and it is based on the same general code base. It's creator (Eric Lengyel) is well known in game development, and he clearly demonstrates that he cares about quality. But, as another reviewer mentioned, this means that new features are -very- slow to appear because it's just one guy working on them. When they do appear, though, you can bet they are extremely well done.
I have a license to the newest version, and I continue to be impressed with the cleanliness of the source code. This engine has always been known for that, and it's well-deserved. I learn a lot by seeing how things are done in Tombstone.
The tools are nice but might take some time to become accustomed. Models can be imported from either Collada or Eric's own OpenGEX format. The new font tech is really awesome, but it's kind of a small thing to have put so much effort into.
Overall, I think this is a great engine with huge potential, and it's definitely more stable than -any- other AAA engine, by a long shot.

This engine stinks. Do not buy the marketing crap that the developers try to cram down your throat. The engine is nowhere near as capable as they would have you believe.
I have used several engines, and C4 has by far the best design I have ever seen. It's really a pleasure to work with this engine after dealing with all the hidden shortcomings of engines like Unity, and it even costs less. Plus there are frequent updates and the community is very professional.
