Game market is too bound to massive approaches to allow a developer worry about making a multi-platform game. It would be expensive (at least in terms of time) and not rewarding since 99% of players in the world play on Windows. And windows technologies are far more supported by thousands of various technologies. So today, when incomes are everything for such industries, they will just not bother about linux.
About the source code, it is not useless. It is just too much complicated for one or two programmers to work on it as an hobby.
Look what a single german programmer has made with Descent source code (1994 game, full ms-dos 640x480 originally). D2x-xl plays every level with fullscreen aa, any resolutions, real time lightning, texture filtering and any other foolness you may think for such an old game.

Per il Source hanno usato XSI, per creare i modelli di half life 2. In realtà se sai utilizzare un software quello che impari lo puoi applicare con qualsiasi altro, dopo un pò che ti ambienti. Credo che ora ognuno usi il suo software preferito e poi converta i formati, anche se crea dei problemi perche la geometria non è l'unica informazione da convertire

Parkour but it just sticks to the walls, even when jumping from standing still. If it is called 'System' I expect at least for it to take momentum into account

This mod and its features looks stunning for me. Best work is the missile cruiser. How many people are working on this mod?
To no take this as a personal offence, but these are my impressions:
-there isn't a way to start a sp game via using the menu
-why are doors made by two, uncomfortable, pieces?
-the ladders are really bugged, it's almost impossible to enter a side door or detach when descenting from the ceiling door.
-the bg image is clearly a, ugly in-game screenshot (provided with hud and crosshair) with inverted colors
-i abandoned the game after 2 minutes because of these tricky ladders

Probabily the backside details just sucks. i can change them.
The cool aspect is that the lowpoly is made by just... 24-30 polys
hell no!! thats enough fancy to be a concussion :D that's better than the gray slugs we're uset to shoot.. just keep an eye on the extremely low poly count. Ugly forced smoothings are clearly visible
