I've been going around as a writer, but started getting drawn into Concept Art and 3D modeling. I'm currently finishing my studies as a 3D artist and will then be let loose on the world. Beware!
I wanted to try out something else. The last concepts I did were all very edge-tastic, so I wanted to do something completely different. I think with some more work this could work. I find this design cartoony, but interesting.
Very nice! There are advantages to making organic shapes because there is no proportional parts. Geometric is always harder to draw/design something that looks realistic... hence the need for modeling.
I'm inspired by your gun, I'm currently doing a bunch of concept art and I'm doing some weapons too. I hope you can criticize them for me.
Other than the fact that it would be extremely hard/annoying to aim (because of the inverted grip) I'd say it's a very cool design - Love the white/dark blueish color combination! =)
Hehe, good observation! I tried to make the grip the other way around, but it looked wrong. I guess that's one of the disadvantages of organic design.
thoughtbump - maybe it's a gun for a lady, they tend to have weird handles. Also - if there is no recoil, you don't really need to grab something that hard. Still, it'd be better if it was anatomically correct.
Interesting design, I like the lines and combo of new and old design, looks a little like Blade Runner's pistol, that combo of a revolver-esque grip and more futuristic looking furniture over the main body of the gun. I have to agree with previous comments that the slightly back to front angled pistol grip just wouldn't work, at least for human use, might work well as an alien weapon or something and the grip could reflect an alien's unusual physiology. So I guess it depends if your fiction features that sort of thing. The design colours also remind me a bit of the gun from Portal. Be cool to see how this develops.
