UNS2 is for Consoles only and you have to pay them for the Game, NNK is for PC and it's free , but don't worry we're still working on it. it's just a shitload of stuff(and thing about it the ones who make UNS2 are not only 5-10 ppl workin in their free time)
No png is not better, it's better on HDD but not on VRam, use dxt1 or dxt5 almost unnoticeable artifacts but they stay compressed in VRam thus improving FPS with highres textures and faster loading times.
Png will be uncompressed at loading times so it eats up your vram (wich is more important than System Ram)
I would scratch Stencil shadows, slow and they can produce errors on weird models, shadowmapping is more handsome there. And you can control the performance better (smaller FBO to render to) and you can combine them with static shadowmaps. Believe me i worked quite some time with them and once they are well implemented its way better.(Aand you have correct shadows for alphamasked polygons like fences).
Wish you the best for the next try(rly^^) but one thing..only post what you think will be in the released version, just to prevent something wich just happened here.
Btw small hint...get away from Stencil shadows and use shadowmapping, better to implement and geometry independant.

And well Updates are hard to show when the current work focusses on new features wich are not in the stage of showable things AND/OR you won't notice the new thing XD(like bugfixes or better performance)

All that screens are ingame shots, and the vids are ingame too^^, and really it is still HL1 , and the game looks like that, just because..we're far to lazy to render or fake the screens/vids XD

We try to push the details of the map and everything to its maximum while also keeping the performance high.
Oh and yeah the map got quite some interiour...too much for me XD
