We'll probably go with more generic maps which can be reused a lot of places, but we'll most definately add more and more maps. And at some point in time we might do unique maps, but as the current campaign map has more than 500 battlefields, it just makes more sense to make generic maps, and then do slight variations of those maps instead of recreating one specific village.

For larger cities we'll make map-clusters, so Berlin for instance might be 80 connected maps in a cluster, but with 5-6 different maps within the cluster... Hope this makes sense :)

Don't worry - We wish to add more factions and fronts to the game in future development. Right now we just focus on getting two factions and one front up and running. So please have some patience - but meanwhile go sign up for an alpha-key, play the game and let your voice be heard in our forum. :)

I have a reply from our Lead Sound Designer, Reto.Draebesmoelf to all of you:

"Hi all! Thank you so much for all the comments and feedback on the sounds so far.

I will try to explain (make excuses for) why the sounds sound the way they do.

Right now the sound of the hand grenades bouncing is a placeholder sound. It only has one purpose, to "warn" enemies like KeMoN states. When the sound is final it will sound different when it hits different materials and the volume of the sound will depend on how hard it hits the material.

For the large explosions we plan to add a low-pitched rumble noise to give these sounds more punch and bass. It will (hopefully) give the sounds what some of you feel is lacking.

Baryonyx, the game has 3D sound and will later on interact with the environment.

The render and the light-setting is currently in a worse shape than it was two months ago, because we have re-written some of the render-code.

So the video's you've seen (which are all more than two months old) will all look better than the game in its current state, BUT we're almost done with the new render-code, so we can get the game look pretty again.

But that's just the sweet life of developing games and as an Alpha-tester you get to experience the ups and downs of that. :)

Several thousand players have signed up for an Alpha-key and we generally send them on a first come, first serve basis – but to be fair to newly signups, we’ve decided also to hand out some of the keys to random users.

However, it’s our goal to scale up the number of invitations quite substantially within the next couple of weeks. So hang in there!

We currently have around 1000 players (not simultaneously though) who have activated their alpha-key, and the game is currently stable enough.

Thousands of players have signed up, and many have been signed up for several months. Half of the keys are sent to "first come" users and half of the keys are sent to random signups.

We expect to increase the number of invites quite substantially in the near future.

Alpha-keys will be available to all nationalities, however, we currently only have EU servers, and the next region we deploy servers in is the US. So you'll be able to play on the servers with the lowest ping-time.

The tanks are not yet properly textured. The textures are still just placeholders like many other things in the game in its current stage.

Thanks for the comments! I just talked to Reto.Colding about it, and he agreed that the grenade pose is too cartoonish, but he exaggerated it like that for this blogpost in order to prove his point. :-)
