New maps added without much playtesting.
The cry of fear textures have a lot of that going on.
They are messy, but I don't mind publishing what I have in the next upcoming demo, I could also post them to my discord server.
Small update:
Valve has released a 25th anniversary update for Half Life with lots of new content and many changes, fixes and additions. You can read about it here:
Store.steampowered.com
This is a problem however, among these additions are wide and deep changes to the codebase. MOST half life mods made in the 2000s, or at least a good chunk of the older mods will be incompatible with some of these changes to the client.dll and other codebase items.
The UI changes are the most concerning, as they cause crash-on-start. This is a very basic look and abstraction of the deeper problem. I hope Valve can look into these issues soon or a substantial amount of the mods on moddb will be effectively unplayable.
There are some temporary fixes for this, like deleting the trackerscheme.res file in the resources folder, but I'm guessing it will need to be rewritten.
This has been the fastest year that's ever elapsed in my life, it's actually hard to believe that I have had this page for a whole year now.
(I guess that makes sense being that we're all getting older)
I'm planning an update article to break down the new developments after the initial publish, the next few maps involve the first fork in the road the player can take in the story. Hope to see you all soon!
It's laid out in the description.
For those of you out there who are waiting on an update, I need to finish tax season and take care of some serious irl problems, repairs to the house, helping people at church, transitioning out of an old job and into a new one. But there is lots of new additions to the old maps and new maps on the horizon, stick with me.
That brush work is very praise worthy. Trenchbroom is such a nice editor, I'm only kind of sad that we left the era of simple maps at this point and everything needs to be complex to be taken seriously.
Even so, there is also atmosphere in the maps that I'm digging a lot.
I've had a few people download this exact demo file on moddb and test it themselves and I've had success with that so far so make sure you're installing correctly and merging the mod folder with an existing AOM:DC folder.
I've had several other people test the mod out and download from this very link and they got it working. I'm not sure where this issue could stem from so did you make sure you had a copy of AOM:DC to merge the folder with?
If you need help you can send me a message on moddb or discord.
The Soundtrack won't be tampered with much at all. It's very 'mixed media' And while the mod here contains several of my original pieces, a lot of the music from AOMDC is still utilized.
An absolute banger made by one of if not THE best mapper for the build engine series: Merlijn.
The only guy I can think of that even comes close is Bob Averill, yet Merlijn continues to crank out great duke3d maps for nearly 20 years now.
In some ways I agree. If you mindlessly got shipped overseas to fight for a private company's interest in oil reserves then you have not done anything to protect my rights.
Thanks for pointing that out, I fixed the description.
Forsete has been around for a long time, he's a good lad.
Showed me what EDUKE32 was in a time where I was obsessed with playing duke on my new laptop but didn't know how.
Also great taste in music.
Already found one major bug and applying a hotfix in a few minutes.
Thanks, my main points to cover with this mod are to get better at mapping and sound design.
(as the last time I did anything significant with those was a duke3d map in 2009)
As well as to fulfill a passion I have for Afraid of Monsters, it's without a doubt my favorite horror game of the era and I want these concepts I sat on for so long to be playable.
The riff actually doesn't sound like it's from doom, it sounds like Stengah by Meshuggah.
Why would you make a mod that realistically reflects the gear, ammo and supplies the enemies all have?
They're *supposed* to be able to blast you for 3 whole mags with no jams with guns that are literally coming to pieces and not actually have any ammo on their bodies at the same time.
And the stalkers out there operating are not supposed to have food or sleeping bags on them either, they survive on the essence of 'the zone'.
What, you think getting swarmed by waves of military, bandits and dogs all in rotation in the starting area of Cordon is too hard? What a casual...
I bet that after getting blasted for minutes straight and having grenades lobbed at you that you probably expect your enemy corpses to have more than two bullets each to their name and gun that actually functions.
Food? Medical supplies? pffft- no way.
Sometimes when you're just really good at STALKER you need some more difficulty. When 15 fully decked out monolith with g36s and m4s show up out of nowhere and pin you down with full minutes of uninterrupted full auto fire and you drop them all with one head shot sometimes you need the extra challenge of looting their corpses only to find a m4 with 8% condition, broken springs and cracked barrels as well as 1 mag with 3 bullets in it.
The total lack of medical supplies, field cutlery, food and water in exchange for the broken watch and porno mag just adds to the immersion anyway.
This is one of the most detailed and beautiful duke levels I've played, you might recognize me as the 15 year old kid when I first stumbled upon your youtube channel and you directed me to downloading eduke32 as I didn't know what it was.
I didn't even know you mapped, truly inspiring stuff. I'm taking notes for my half life maps for sure. It's navigation is troublesome with all the sprites but you did the absolute best you could with the engine limitations.
Spectacular visuals, okay flow of gameplay, great sound design, definitely worthy of a 9 out of 10.
The last time we spoke was on the 3dRealms forum when I was 14 years old.
Still blowing duke player's minds for over 10 years. Dan, You're a hero.
