A reinstall for Alien Swarm might be necessary as I've had this problem with other source games as well. the reinstall fixed it for me.
We're already looking into the greenlight project, however we just want to wait and improve the game some more(balance wise) before posting our mod on greenlight. once we think the mod is how we want it to be(balanced) we'll get into the greenlight. (probably somewhere in 2013)

The infected are being shown as errors because the l4d package isn't mounted. This will be fixed in the next patch.
The Lambda's are primarily there so multiple players using the Rebel faction can tell who owns which structure (the lambda's being coloured to match the player that owns it). In this example the Yellow team player owns these structures, if they had been build by the Blue team player they would have Blue Lambdas.
imagine having a 3vs3 or 4vs4 match, with 4 rebel teams. it would be very annoying to see which building is yours (without the team-collour lambdas).

As of now, we only plan to have rebels, combines and antlions. Nothing else. First off, the zombies/ headcraps you suggested would be impossible for us to balance out against the combines, rebels or antlions. Because of the following reasons:
1. The combines / rebels could just walk backwards while shooting the zombies.
2. The zombies would probably be dead before they even reach the rebels, combines (or antlion workers since they have a ranged attack as wel)
3. The zombies would need a much higher number to even stand a little chance and since we have 50 units cap it would be impossible to use that tactic.
Now, for the tf2 red and blue team, it would really not fit in with the half life 2 style units at all. Just because of the way they're textured. Maybe a tf2 gamemode, for example, 'cp'? Could be fun in a rts perspective. But I won't get your hopes up for this.
Counterstrike units, same thing as for the tf2 faction: they won't fit in with the half life 2 units.
Also, if we would add tf2 and css teams to half life 2 wars people would actually have to own half life 2 ep 2 / tf2 a d css. This is just way too demanding.

No, the upcomming release will be fully focused on the multiplayer. But we might start on a singleplayer once the multiplayer is fully complete. But nothing is certain, and "if" we do start on a singleplayer we will probably notify you about it.
I understand why you guys would prefer it smaller, but the lambda signs are for the teamcollouring. And with this size you can see better for which team the buildings are.
in your sourcemods folder, example: "C:\steam\steamapps\sourcemods". you have to put the "Ex" folder there.it will look something like this.

then after you've done that restart steam and you should be good to go.:)

you don't really "Need" ep2 installed, but you will get a couple of missing errors. Not shure if it's a gamebreaker since I never played without ep2 installed.

Well, if we give 100% focus to the multiplayer we can get release a version quicker. for example, if we had put 50% of our focus to the singleplayer and 50% to the multiplayer the update that's comming soon could be months later.

The old version (0.5 beta) had a few singleplayer maps. but the current up-to-date version (1.0.4 beta) only has multiplayer. but there is currently no server running.
The strider might feel more strider-ish(?) that way, but it would unbalance the unit. as one strider could just kill 100 rebels if none of them has a rpg.
