Why Mods have do die?

Knut Blog

The Question is a simple one just the answer isn't.

First I have to say, that I'm new to modding and very unexperienced,
but from the very beginning I simply can't understand why Mods have to die,
although most of them are really great artworks.

One of the first thoughts I had on, was the maybe missing respect of gamers, usually
playing commercial games, towards a mod.
In my opinion only people, modding or creating games theirselfes or even tried to do so
can really understand what it means to enjoy little steps and projects and if a presented mod isn't "up-to-date" most people just pass by to the next one.

And I think this is where a mod dies.
Hardly every mod shown here on moddb, is worth playing even there's only an alpha or beta.
Nevertheless the most important thing is to STICK to a mod you like, to love it and fight for its
stay.

That pushs devs to keep up their work and supporting their stuff and maybe
someone, sometime sets up a league, newsletter or whatever for especially this mod.
What I mean in fac is a community not for all mods but for the individuals you like.

Think about and watch details.. : )

..sorry for my english im from Germany
Greetings
Knut

Nice blog Knut !
This is the exact reason that I setup the Social Modding Club.
I saw all these amazing mods and very few people playing them even though they are all great.
There are so many mods and games and not enough sites like moddb/desura so the modding community can forget about some of these great mods.

I struggled for awhile and couldn't figure out what I could do to help the situation. I'm not a modder or coder even though I would like to be. However I am an avid fan of gaming and especially love the modding and indie scene due to their creative freedoms and generally refreshing game design. Finally when I saw Desura release and got an early beta invite, I noticed that there weren't any groups. I realized that Desura provides the perfect place for a group of gamers to get together and organize gaming events around mods. You can watch, download and now install and update mods.... so why not PLAY them together too :)

Hope to see you online!
