Syak, a former military aviator and engineer, began modding the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series to enhance gameplay and immersion, inspired by the AMK mod. Initially unimpressed with Shadow of Chernobyl, which he discovered through his son, he focused on creating substantive changes, emphasizing challenging survival mechanics and strategic gameplay over superficial improvements.
Despite lacking a programming background, Syak's perseverance led to significant contributions, informed by his personal experiences with danger and survival. Syak acknowledged that his work will not appeal to everyone, but he remained committed to creating deeply immersive experiences for a niche audience.
His work influenced and inspired other modders, leading to large projects such as Narodnaya Solyanka, DSH, Dead Air, and more.
His final version, NLC 7: I am Marked One, released in 2017, marked his retirement from modding and from the Internet.
There's an old Russian interview with him, for those who are interested:

After receiving the 3rd quest, Wolf advises Marked One to search stashes for loot in his dialogue. For visual guidance, Gleksimus made a video highlighting all possible (random) spots where it can spawn for new players:
Gleksimus is continuing with his series on playing through the early quests.
You could try to:
- create a file ui_main_menu.script in gamedata/scripts/ui/.
- copy the content from this paste inside the file: Pastebin.com
- locate "elseif dik == DIK_keys.DIK_F1 and game_options.Spawner then" and try to change F1 to a different button.
Check the Reshade settings, likely some button is already bound to F1 by it.
The beginning is very rough, good job on persevering!
Nice! Glad you got it resolved.
Safe travels, stalker, and be attentive.
You can save anywhere by default in this version of NLC if you enable the spawner in Game Options. Simply toggle it, then press F1 and you should see a "Save Game" button.
498 errors are indicative of out of memory issues, but it's the 2nd error, so it's probably not the case.
The first error you posted makes me think that there was an issue with downloading and somehow it got corrupted for you.
Try redownloading, if possible.
If it still doesn't work, come join the C-Con discord (link in the readme) and mention the problem in #nlc-general; I'll message you after with an alternative download.
Some side questions:
Does the crash happen for you regardless of the difficulty you choose?
Are you running on static lighting?
Are your specs enough to run SoC?
Sorry to hear you have this trouble.
When did you download the repack?
Ensure there's gamedata/levels folder. If it's not there, create it (it does not need to contain anything, the game files are packed already in the game's root folder).
Rest in peace.
Thank you for all the creative work.
Hey, RoSoDude,
I've been really enjoying the changes of your fork.
One thing I noticed is that, unlike in GMDX 9, thrown fire extinguishers no longer explode (at least from most heights), which is unfortunate. Could it be due to your change to their hitpoints (it's 3 now) and how would one go about returning the old functionality?
Updated the changelog. Sorry for the previously machine-translated text in it.
It's likely radiation. Geiger counter allows you to see your current level of radiation poisoning.
Looks solid! Good luck with your project!
Interesting question. It's because of the keybinds that end recording for Nvidia Shadowplay.
Making a page here already? Peculiar. I like it.
Thank you posting this.
I realize people will find it seductive to take a peek, but one must be warned: streams might show slight spoilers (even though some might find the notion of "spoiler" to be ridiculous in a free-play modification).
He's not joking.

No, Last Day and Dead Air are not connected directly. Last Day was made by colleagues of the CoM team, and the latter is now making Dead Air. Respectively, Last Day is entirely up to the Last Day's team.
Sorry if it wasn't clear from the article.
Which one? All of them seem to be working for me.
Dead Air's page can be found here: Moddb.com
Lanforse posted this statement regarding performance a while ago on ap-pro. Here's a rough translation:
"Generally, it's possible to get better visuals than in CoM for the same performance cost. But maxing up all the settings and expecting the same performance as in CoM is not advised. CPU load is now slightly higher. Someone who wants to achieve consistent 60fps, perhaps, will now need to reduce his A-life radius and render distance, but not to critically low values, obviously.
New GPUs will easily process freshly added shaders and other things (although there are some heavy effects), but old hardware might not. Naturally, everything can be disabled just for such cases. RAM requirements are higher. Those, who had memory-related crashes on Trucks Cemetery will have it rougher now. Those without such issues will be fine, the engine is still x86-32, meaning the 3,2GB memory limit is still here.
The situation looks like this:
1. Those, who had troubles running the game on R1 should be careful. Probably it's best to wait for optimized textures and other performance-improving changes. If your problem was only in GPU, but CPU and RAM were fine, then you can calm down and expect a smooth ride.
2. Those, who were using med-high settings and less advanced DX9 renders -- not all new graphical features might become available. One thing can be said for certain: you won't get worse graphics than in CoM.
3. Those, who were using high settings except for very performance hungry options like SSAO or DX10 anti aliasing -- everything is in order, everything will be beautiful. Everything that you could have seen before and will see later will be available to you. No need to sell your kidney or buy GTX1080.
4. Owners of top of the line hardware. Well, obviously everything is bad. You're doomed to have 30 fps, 720p and additional cinematic lines around the screen (for extra immersion)."
Check the Big House in the Wild Territory. You should find it there: Stalker.wikia.com
Other kits also spawn in certain places.
CoM hasn't been updated since January 2017 and Lanforse (main dev) has no plans to transfer the content from Misery 2.2 into CoM. He is, however, currently busy with another project similar to CoM, so keep an eye out for it.
